The 0-60 (and 0-100kph) times are very close, so either car can win depending on who got the better start. And it doesn't help that the M4 spun its tires.
Before I looked up the figures I thought the M4 would smoke the i8. On the screen we're told the M4 0-100kph time is 4.5 seconds and the i8's is 4.2. The BMWNA website gives slightly quicker times for the M4. Where the i8 excels is passing speeds. On the freeway it pulls from 40 to 80 mph very very quickly.

BMW M4 with AWD as an option please.

I personally don't really care about the top-end speed, I care about 0-60 mph where the rubber meets the road. I want total grip like a Cheetah sprinting and cornering on all-fours, not like bouncing Kangaroos with them only using their rear hind legs for forward thrust. Oh the haters and excuse makers are out in full force today. i8 won, hands down. Measured 3.8 0-60 does it every time against a slower car.
And to think, I've owned four M3's. |

Thinking of how BMW declined to provide a major automotive magazine an i8 for a multi-car test because they didn't want their flagship sports car to be subjected to comparative lap times.

I think both of these cars are not a good comparison as the price points are not even close......so kinda pointless...and the more expensive car won as it should...if it didn't I would yell(SCRAP METAL)

I HAVE AN E92 M3 and an I8 and can tell you that the I8 pulls hard - way past the 100KH/H or 65 MPH mark.
While I agree that you cannot compare the 2 it is still fun to see. At least BMW gives us choices on very different cars which is important for the brand. Anyway, agree with previous posters, bring on the popcorn |

The fervent comments are very enjoyable.

Reminds me of the i3 vs M3 (E92) comparison. The i3 was the fastest in the entire range from 0-30mph.
Results are not shocking (no pun intended), but irrelevant. Need more data, multiple runs, etc. I would like to see their 0-62mph/0-100kph time for that particular M4 run. Had to be awfully slow with that launch. Holds same weight as a 3 honk "5 mph roll" street race for bragging rights on youtube. Still respect the i8 (as an M4 owner). I get to see an i8 locally and it's totally bada$$. |

It's all about 4WD ...
Think about the GTR or 911 Turbo/S and their numbers... Last word... "Power is nothing without control" !
