i8 family wagon :)

1 day with the car and it has proven itself as a family car. I wanted to share this as there are no previous posts that answered my questions 100%.

Family of 4 fits well, still enough room forfront passengers: JR 1 and 1/3 seats from BMW (Manufactured probably by Takata when I did a picture comparison). The have very good results in crash tests.

The Baby Jogger City mini baby stroller and Quinny ZAPP fit the boot perfectly. I tried fitting both in the Porsche 997 turbo , but they didnt fit. Also the doorislonger, so you have a better reach to the rear seats. In the pics the right seat is not rear facing, but that fits also and it is very simple to turn around in seconds.

Thanks, so far not missing the Panamera Turbo, which I thought was unnecessarily big!

Did you remove the rear seat pads to fit the child seats or did you just put them on top of the pads? I've been thinking that if it won't be too much of a hassle, and as long as the back doesn't look like it was torn apart, I may try to remove the rear seat pads. That way if I want to transport anything in the back I'll have the space without having to worry about damaging the seat pads. I also hate when people try to ride in my back seats in a 2 door, so by removing them no one will even be tempted to ask. My only concerns as of right now are ease of removal, and whether or not the felt material that surrounds the seat also extends underneath them and it's not some bare metal surface or exposed wiring. I was able to fit my fingers underneath the rear seats of my friend's i8 and felt like it should be ok to remove but I didn't dare try so I'm not entirely sure.

Hope you didn't have far to travel from the grocery store to home, as I hear the rear compartment get's very hot.

I also have my car seats on top of the pads, didn't remove anything. In addition I have an extra soft pad protection:

Ha! Exactly. Imagine how that thing would hang on for dear life when you're racing a Porsche down the highway in the i8 ...

It's weird that you fit the Jogger City Mini because we went to Buy Buy Baby and tried it and it would not fit. Even just looking at it, it wasn't close. Looking at your picture, I don't see the wheels? They seemed to be the main impediment, I don't suppose you removed them somehow. I don't know if it's a newer model of the stroller or what. The only one that would fit was the Mountain Buggy Nano, which left some room to spare.

As for car seats, the Cybex Aton Q fit rear facing without the passenger seat having to be all the way forward. Still a tight fit of course, only for passengers under 5' 5" and/or short distances.

Trunk capacity is not a bad at all given size and class of the car ,I am joining in the wagon having seen these photos ,pun intended

I also watched the Porsche Cayman Test Review, Video . It seemed to have more cargo capacity thanks to both front and rear luggage areas but it omits having rear seats therefore overall BMW i8 is even more useful that many people don't realize

Thank you for posting and for mentioning the Baby Jogger City Mini. I got one because of this post, and it does fit if you put it in the right way. No need to remove wheels or anything. It's perfect.

Drawback is - my wife now wants to go on family drives all the time. It's not my car anymore in the same way the Porsche was. ;-)
