My Licence plate has "UFO" in it - that usually gets a mention as well - couldn't resist because of the futuristic looks

fact is you are all just cooler people without the badges

That's the whole point. All those people who have been thinking hybrids have to be ugly and lame (let alone those who have actually bought a Prius) are getting their wake-up calls from the e-drive badge. I love it.

Oh, please, no. Symmetry can also be overdone. I've always thought it looked off on the M1. And that one actually had "natural spaces" to put them. What manufacturer puts two logos on the back? That's just way too in-your-face. And no matter how well you do it (where would you put them?), it will always look like a DIY job because it doesn't really match the orignal design.

It can be done if designed in to start with....

Still does nothing for me. This emblem doesn't work other than being centered, imo.

Same here. It's a great-looking concept, but the two badges let it down, in my view. They're there only because they were there on the M1 in the first place.

Since my i8 has already 60'000 mi the paint had suffered a little bit over time and I decided to spent it an extensive fresh up. At that occasion I decided to leave both badges away and kept the new i8 badge in my pocket, at least for the moment but maybe also definitely.

I love the look!

FYI, BigT, you're wheels look like they're on the wrong sides of the car (turbine rotating the wrong way).

Correct, mine were mixed on purchase (second hand) - all sorted now!

One of the first things I did was de-badge the Roadster. I removed BOTH the i8 and e-drive badges.

But the Roadster license plate says "I842" ;-)

The same manufacturer who just had to put Coupe and Roadster badges on the sides …. as otherwise no one would know which is which

I like the i8 badging. The fonts are small and subtle and they are only in one place on the car, not plastered all over the place. What’s wrong with identifying the car? I see debadged Porsches and I miss being able to identify which models they are. I guess that means I’m just not discerning enough to tell a Carrera from a Carrera S, so I like to check out the badging to know what I’m looking at. Call me weird. I must admit there is one badge that I don’t like at all - the Ferrari shield on the sides of the cars. I find that one overdone with too much yellow splashed on. I don’t think the yellow goes very well with any of the Ferrari colors.

Edit: OK, I just took a bike ride and saw a Carrera S and realized it has quad exhaust pipes vs 2 for the Carrera. I still like badges. And Teslas. Impossible to identify without the rear badge. There are plenty of debadged Teslas around here and coming to a stoplight I like to know if I am next to a Model S 60 or a P100D.

Although I do like the debadged look, I've never disliked the badges enough to remove them.
Until the 2019 i8.
I think the 'coupe' badge on the side is ridiculous. I would definitely take that one off.

I’d have to agree.
Why did BMW think they needed a sign on the side of the car to inform onlookers if the car was a convertible or a hard top. Seems pretty obvious to me, and kind of stupid.
If somebody needs a sign to tell the difference...they probably shouldn’t be driving.
I would definitely de-badge those.
As for the i8 and the edrive badges on the rear of my i8. De-badging is under consideration.

I would assume it is to separate the new cars from the old cars, there are no other visual differences.

Apart from the smooth bonnet (hood) on the new cars?

The hood is only noticeable from the front, visually the sides of the car are exactly the same. I know that is how I can quickly identify and 2019+ car.

OK, practical question: how do you get the remnant gunk off? I used dental floss to cut thru the adhesive, but have not been able to dissolve the shadow goo.

While we are at it, anyone come up with a good way to remove the airbag sticker on the sun visors?

I've been COVERING the airbag sticker for years on ALL my cars:

Get some stretchy Nylon Spandex from the local fabric store which matches the color of your interior (mine is black).

Sew the spandex into an open ended rectangular "sock" to slide over the visor. (You'll need two). Be sure to hem the two open edges on each sock. (very easy)

Slide it over the visors and, if you've sized it right, it'll fit nice and snug and you'll never notice that its there. You can also slide stuff between the visor "cover" (sock) and the visor if you want (vehicle registration, etc).

When you are ready to sell the car you can simply slide them off or leave them with the car...
