"Interesting" and "Cool" car but no way the i8 is going to pass for a real "SuperCar"... It just doesn't get the job done...

Is the Lexus LFA a supercar then? Because it has basically the same performance numbers (0-60, 1/4 mile) of an i8. Or are the Nissan GTR or Corvette ZR1 supercars?

I thought we were talking about the i8?
(How about the Tesla Model 3?) Get over it...

A supercar has a few qualifications.
1. Expensive...on the order of buying a house. 2. Service is only found in major metro areas. 3. An oil change is at least $1,000 4. A 10 year old supercar won't have more than a couple thousand miles. 5. Your insurance company laughs at you when you ask for a quote. |

i8 is not a supercar, but it certainly does look like one.
The only cars mentioned in this thread that are supercars are the Lamborghini and Ferraris. Although not models like the California etc. Exclusivity & high price are a requirement. Not merely performance. I would class the original Honda NSX as a supercar, but certainly not the current one. And Tesla...… …. not even a super car, never mind a supercar |

Here's hoping BMW doesn't think its as funny as you do. The Model 3 has outsold ALL BMW passenger vehicles delivered into the U.S. last August. Must be a real piece of crap that nobody want's, huh?

When I bought the i8 I never considered for one second whether it was a supercar or not and I couldn't care less what people want to label it. The car puts a smile on my face when I drive it. Call it whatever you want.

I think it could have been a great option for a lot of us as a daily driver, If it weren’t as hideous as it is. The Model S is such a beautiful design it amazes me how they decided it’d be ok to have literally one of the ugliest cars on the road, even magazines point out its ugly-ness lol. |

Oooh, Ouch, Burn!
But, I'm not the one who was so insecure as to feel it necessary to bash Tesla in the first place... You got me though! I'm a "fanboi" for a lot of different cars and manufacturers. I like a lot more cars than just the ones I drive... I just like cars. I'm so shallow! as always!

Gentlemen....REALLY?? One would think that at the point in your life where you can afford to drive an i8, you would care less about the label "supercar". It only matters if it's a supercar to YOU!

Each to their own I say... If you like Teslas, good for you. If you don't, that's also just personal taste. In any event many of the comments are very entertaining |

Evan, don't be so sensitive.
No one has said the Tesla is a "piece of crap". Just that it's hilarious to even suggest it as a supercar in this thread. It's a family saloon, or SUV type. Nothing super about it. Straight line acceleration is cool though. Goes like a fish...steers like a cow though. In Europe we like our cars to be able to go around corners...fast. i8 does that. |

Here is my input, I had a 720whp M6, then R8 with VF tune, and now an I8. I gotta tell you the I8 is by far my favorite, I will admit though I'm 37 with 3 kids and a career, my car meet days and street racing are over because i have way too much to lose plus no time. Do I enjoy speed and performance still? of course I do, but these days my car is like a rolling party for me and the wife. We get dressed, blast our music, car is a rolling celebrity, then pulling up to the valet in front of a nice restaurant is an event every time. As far as performance a few I8's have test in the high 3's for 0-60, its around town fast, its down shift fast, the instant torque is a different feeling. The car is of course not a rocket ship but will equal a base 911 or corvette around town. For some reason other than the wailing V10 sound I couldn't fall in love with my R8, the lack of tech in the gen 1 is horrible, I had a 2015. The car was kinda plain. Oh one other thing, after being spoiled with the butterfly doors and a carbon tub it will be hard to ever give that up. The mono coupe just feels so right. Im a guy that can afford any car I want up to 120ish and I chose this car, its an absolute treat to drive. Its crazy though, around my car guys friends its "oh you have an I8 now?" to the public ANYWHERE I go its "WOW YOU HAVE AN I8!!!" I was in Manhattan with it last week and it was out of control with pics etc, my r8cant sniff that. So to me the carbon tub, doors, looks, tech, and ok performance make it a supercar

My car friends also say things to me like a gtr is faster, or a m3 can be faster, but to me and where I am in life those cars wouldn't serve my purpose. Gtr performance is amazing but the inside is absolute junk. And one other thing if its only performance that makes a supercar then most Aston's,Spykers and a few others aren't very fast my todays standards either.
