Hamilton had a nice long post saying the race should have been cancelled and that waiting for three hours was pointless, but I never heard him say that all day. No driver wanted it cancelled.

Hindsight is always 20/20 and I think the directors clearly wanted to do some form of racing today but unfortunately there just wasn't a window that opened up.

On the other hand if Hamilton was on pole I guarantee you he would be happy with taking 12.5 points. Courtesy of f1troll

IMO only good thing to come out of the race today lol. Pretty happy for George.

Otherwise I guess the work up to this GP was just a bunch of extra repair costs for RB and Mclaren, and more wear and tear for all the teams on their new engines all for nothing lol.

Glad I didn't wake up early for this one lol, especially after a late night of watching MMA.

Currently I have no idea . Didn't got news about the whole situation .

On the other hand : The Francorchamps circuit is going through difficult financial times .
Last year they didn't got incomes by the damn Covid pandemic ,last month the circuit was damaged by the floodings and now It's a bad moment as they planned circuit constructions regarding the safety at Raidillon/Eau Rouge .

Hopefully they are having deep pockets ..

What a bummer. Sucked enough watching at home, feel bad for the fans on track. Spa is one of the best tracks of the year, the weather cheated us.

Oh well, ready for Max Mania next weekend. That place is gonna be rocking!

Have to say this was a joke. Should have hit the golf course this morning instead of watching a “race”.

We are good. All hatches battened down. We inspected the rental property last week and took care of last minute items Friday. Just a matter of waiting now. Winds are gusty but not too bad as I type this. Watching The Mandolorian as I relax.

Thanks for your concern!!

It wasn't about the points received it was really a waste of time. Just like us, we're complaining with the long delay, I'm sure the drivers were thinking the same. At a certain point with all the data, those in charge should be able to determine whether or not a race is possible.

Interesting how events balance out resulting in a zero energy universe.

Weather happens, life isn’t fair. Short term memories will prevail.

Instagram warriors will move on to the next disaster/injustice/cause in the next 48 hours.

Looking forward to the next race.

For those looking to kill some time, check out the Fernando Alonso documentary on Amazon Prime. 2nd season was just released and it gives a genuine look at the life of an F1 driver. Well done series.

WTF

A green flag condition was never shown and only red flag conditions and a race winner was declared....this sounds like something that could happen at a local figure-8 bubba race and not at the highest level of motorsport.

The FIA was quoted as saying "it was impractical to delay the race until the following day"....this is incompetence at the highest level.

Masi stated in an interview that it was a genuine attempt to race under green-flag conditions before the rain got worse. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile noted that it was impractical to delay the race until the following day. Formula One Management is now planning to have discussions with the teams and the FIA regarding changes to sporting regulations to prevent such a farcical occurrence happening again, trying to seek a more satisfactory alternative minimum requirement is achieved in order for a classification to be achieved as well as discussing the possibility of putting written provisions in the rules to reschedule a race should it be unsuitable to run a race on it's original dateName: image.jpeg

There are probably dozens of things that we probably don't think about which would have to have been preplanned (and financed) to postpone the race another day ranging from team travel to simply having enough volunteer marshals on hand. It would be nice if F1 always included this contingency, but it's probably only realistic in a few places at certain parts of the schedule. That said, Spa is one of the highlights of the season and bad weather is not a rarity so they really should try harder there.

My other thought was what if qualifying had that weather? Would they go with times from FP2 or FP3 if the morning practice was decent enough weather.

Or would quali be done Sunday morning and try to race that afternoon?

Lots of contingencies to consider.

For those that live near Spa or are familiar with that region, is there a time of year in that part of Belgium where the rain chances are diminished?

Since the FIA has determined how to award victory when the race has not occurred, perhaps this will be the new normal for other forms of competition at the highest level....football, American football, baseball, basketball, tennis, etc.

The FIA has the obligation to determine there is an unsafe condition and the event should not occur.

The FIA does not have the obligation or the right to determine a winner in an event that did not occur.
