Picked up my iX M60 - Observations
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Initial Observations, may be long for some people. Range - So far the range is much better than expected. In mixed driving I am getting about 320 miles on a full charge. 22" summer tires. Driving - Very plush in normal mode and can be driven as mild as you like. Soaks up the bumps and feels just like the 50 and similar to my x5. When you turn on sport mode, the seats hug you a bit, ambient lighting turns red and iconic sounds change. It was a big hit with the family. It has some great power, enough to put smiles on everyone face and with the sounds people were commenting that it was like an amusement ride. Of course, you can turn that off if you want a more serious ride. I have to say I am very impressed and love the iconic sounds in the 60. One item I found different than in ICE cars is when you want to do fine movements like come to a complete stop then move small distances like in a tight garage. For example, in ICE you just use the brake while in drive to stop the forward movement. In the 60 once you stop it doesn't move again so moving 6 inches can be challenging as damage awaits a lead foot. I found myself backing out and using momentum to get to the spot I wanted. You can feather foot it as well with just the lightest touch moving you forward. Cabin - I love the cabin, the front 2 seats are great, and the space is open. I thought the open space in the front would bother me, but I like it. I can plug my radar detector in using the 12-volt adapter. People sitting in the front and back have commented on how comfortable the seats are compared to my x5. People in the back thought it had so much room. The Bowers is incredible and like the 4d effect. It has been very hot, and the roof dimming has blocked the sun with no issues for me. Back storage is good and fits about the same as my x5 when hauling stuff. Tech - All the tech works very good but need to get used to the ID8 vs 7. I am sure it's a learning curve but switching from CarPlay to non CarPlay and back again is not as easy as it used to be. The HUD is much larger than the x5 and looks / works great. Taking calls in the car is clear and no drops so far on CarPlay or Microsoft Teams. Home Charging - I have a ChargePoint charger at home and the car accepts 48 amps and charges at home with no issues so far. I like how it alerts me through the BMW app when charging is done, and I can check charging history to get additional details. Overall, very happy with the ChargePoint and the ease of charging at home. Last edited by TechCTU; 08-06-2022 at 07:47 PM.. |

Congratulations! It's a beautiful car!
Room-wise, how would you compare the iX to your X5? Do you feel that the front seats are about the same, smaller? And cargo space. I've got a 2019 X5 40i, and I'm trying to decide whether to just keep it, go for an iX, or maybe even the X7 LCI. :

The storage space in the back seems to be about the same. The x5 had the two cubbies on the side and that's missing in the iX. You do get a storage shelf in the iX. I loaded up today and I was able to fit the same amount of stuff. The new design of the x7 is nice, I did look at that before going to the iX. I wanted to go electric and get the benefits of huge HP and low maintenance. If I was to select an ICE SUV, the x7 would be my choice. If they dropped the big 8k screen in there I may have been swayed |

Thanks for the update! Sounds very X5-like sans the ICE then, coupled with insane performance!
Here's hoping that she's everything you wanted and then some. 🍻

Very cool mine arrives next week like yours fully loaded and other than being black sapphire. I have the chargepoint as well set up with 60A supply to deliver 48A without issue. Look forward to more observations. Selling my X3M comp.

It is possible to switch the drive mode to behave like a ICE car where you turn off the regenerative braking, so the car will not stop when you take the foot off the gas

I don't think so, it drives like the DCT/PDK transmissions in that regard. Though I imagine "creep mode" could be added in software at some point.

When you're driving in D as opposed to B, I feel like the car behaves mostly like ICE. When I take the foot off the gas (go pedal?) it will coast for a long time. In freeway driving if you coast downhill you will feel the regen kicking in which is a little like engine braking. There are settings within D that change its behavior, I can't remember them all but there's an adaptive setting which varies the regen.

I also don't like the choice they made with the rigid parcel shelf vs the roll out cargo cover. It makes loading harder and if you need to stack things higher the rigid shelf has no logical storage space. |

I believe in the sport plus setting it turns off traction control. I have not tried it yet. Sounds like it will be fun!

That is incorrect, i have an IX 50 demo at my dealership and it creeps forward when you take your foot off the brake, as long as you are not in "B" mode.
