Bring back Europe Delivery to supplement the lost of EV Tax Credit?

I had done two EDs in the last decade and they were a lot of fun. Especially now that the pandemic is relatively under control, BMW should bring that back.

It appears BMW does care about the potential lost of sales due to the lost of the Federal Tax Credit for EVs to the point they even put out a press release on how to help their customers get the credits.

With that said, it also appears the demand for their EVs are still very high.

But I hope they would bring ED back with the discounts that we used to enjoy. I guess one can only wish...

They will worry about the loss of tax credit when they have cars sitting around. Right now it isn't the case

I specifically asked BMWNA to allow me to pay for my own i4 M50 Welt delivery, and they said no.

ED looks like a dead horse.

I did 7 BMW European Deliveries. They were great experiences and I saved a lot of money on BMW 5ers.

I almost forked over the money for a new Porsche just so I could do ED again. It was by far the best trip I've ever taken and I would jump at the chance to do it again!

Did you pay less for ED? Don't you have to somehow get the car to the US which sounds very expensive…

The dealer loses their bonus holdback which paid for the ED savings. So I guess it works - get all the dealers to lobby for ED to come back and I think it will likely happen.

Euro Deliveries did not come out of dealer allocation. They were kind of an extra sale. BMW NA discounted Euro Delivery sales, the dealers were open to very aggressive discounts if one could negotiate well. BMW CCA had subsidies for all BMW's. From 2001 to 2014 I purchased BMW 5ers for between 11 and 12 percent off of US MSRP. it was a great deal and great fun to tour great European sights every 3 years. As an architectural firm owner I wrote those trips off of my taxes. Plus delivery at the old Frieman Center and then the BMW Welt were all great experiences.

It's my understanding that it is much cheaper to ship used cars than new cars to the states so when you did ED and took delivery at the Welt it automatically became a used car and BMW passed SOME of the savings they incur from shipping the used car back to you.

That's what they said....seems like Audi and Mercedes did it at right about the same time. Like they were all in the boardroom and the accountants where showing how ED wasn't worth it anymore and then COVID hit and someone got fed up with the briefs and just threw in the towel.

Yea... when the accountants are involved, bad decisions are made.

In this case, they neglected a group of devotees who love the program. In fact, most companies would kill to get people like us who are sorta like "influencers" and keep promoting the brand.

Instead... like most companies run by bean counters... do otherwise...

Many of the most loyal BMW Enthusiasts did BMW Euro Delivery.

The world has moved on. When ED was in its prime, BMW was a Germany centric company. Now production is largely in the USA, Mexico, China etc.

These days I expect BMW wants to be perceived as an international car company rather than mainly German.

And the environmental sustainability of it goes against BMW's stance.

I did 5 ED, and if the program was re-instated even without previous discounts, I would do a few more.
