Defect Code 0064290200

A 0064290200 defect code recently popped up in the recall tool (https://bmw-recall-tool.netlify.app/) for my VIN and it’s in the open status. Recall type is “no recall” and customer notification flag is “Y”. I haven’t been notified about it just yet. https://www.bmw.at/de/footer/quick-l...-aktionen.html is also showing this defect with the following translated description:

“There is an open technical improvement to this vehicle. Please book an appointment online for your vehicle here by selecting "Service as needed" or contact your local BMW Service Partner here for more information. Improvement code: 0064290200”

Anyone knows what this technical improvement is?

It hasn't surfaced in a service bulletin quite yet...

But given the prefix of the code, I'd wager this is to get your coolant changeover valves replaced.

I would speculate that this is the campaign to get the part replaced if you had the 0064240200 delivery stop and took delivery of the car after signing the acknowledgement.

I'll update when I can confirm if my guess is accurate or not. Or schedule a service visit at your dealer - they will be obligated to do the work for this open service issue.

Thanks. You are most likely correct. Yes, I had 0064240200 which was closed after signing the acknowledgment letter.

The bulletin for the coolant changeover valve issue was updated today and I can confirm 0064290200 is the repair code to replace both in the iX.

0064280200 will be the code used for i4,i5, and i7 cars.

If your VIN is tagged with this code, you can schedule service to get the valves replaced before it gets cold again.

Thanks for the info. What do you mean by both? Two coolant valves?

Yes, the iX has two valves that will be replaced. One of them is in a pretty tough spot to access.

Thanks for clarifying. hugo_nz detailed the replacement procedure for one of the valves here - https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s...4&postcount=19

Those instructions are for the easier of the two (Valve 1). Valve 2 which is closer to the HV battery requires removal of a couple more parts before it is accessible:

- Remove thrust field
- Remove the Y-strut on the engine support bracket.

The attached service bulletin (publicly available from NHTSA) shows the locations for each model, although the diagrams they used in that bulletin aren't as clear as the repair instructions or functional descriptions in TIS.
