BMW i8S Performance Model Spied?
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW i8S Performance Model Spied? This BMW i8 has just been spotted running the streets of Munich. Could it be the rumored i8S performance model? Certain features seen on this car points to a higher performance version. The most conspicuous new part is the rear hatch glass with cooling vents. In addition to the already existing vents flanking the back glass, these new cooling vents would help cool a higher performance engine. The glass has been blacked out presumably to hide whatever upgraded engine may lie beneath, which has been rumored to be anything between a twin turbo 320hp 2.0L DI 4-cylinder paired with 204hp electric motor, to a 480hp turbo 3.0L 6-cylinder paired with 109 hp electric motor. In sum, it's anyone's guess at this point. The car wears wider tires, new wheels, and new brakes - an AP Racing competition braking system with vented rotors. Also new is a small aero lip affixed to the leading edge of the hood vent. Will we possibly see an i8S model be introduced with the i8's mid-cycle refresh sometime next year? We shall see... |

Saw this earlier...although i have no love for the i8 at all, if this indeed packs this in line 6, which i doubt, it would be a considerable power upgrade. That coupled with aero upgrades and wider tyres, could lead into something pretty interesting.

AP Racing brakes and no measurement equipment on the interior. Could this be a speed shop car and not a BMW Test Vehicle

A performance i8 model would be pretty amazing. I really doubt BMW would flaunt an uncamouflaged model of its cutting edge tech car though. The wheels and brakes could easily be this guy's aftermarket upgrades. The rear glass is really interesting tho... Time will tell I guess, bring on an i8S or whatever!

No way BMW is putting brakes branded AP Racing on the i8. Look at the M-line. Everything is M-Performance branded. I'm not even sure we've ever seen a test mule with a third-party branded brake product.

It would be neat if this was the Gabura Racing Technologies V8 swap. Although unlikely, I can dream.

Weird...I think we need to see the plates on this i8. There is no camouflage whatsoever. This is not the typical BMW test mule...
Update: just found that when searching for the rims: http://www.bmwmotorshowblog.com/en/b...car-formula-e/ Looks like they 'stole' the brakes, rims, spoiler and engine glass cover from the i8 Formula E safety car!

How about a part hybrid mated to an S55 w a dct and M chassis? An easier formula for a supercar could not be conceived.
