OnGrid has an event coming up at Thunderhill on 8/26.
Speed Ventures is going to be at Laguna Seca on 6/29-7/1, then at Sonoma on 9/29-30. Speed District will be at Laguna Seca on 9/14 and 12/8-9 they all have instruction available for purchase. |

In my experience with Speed Ventures and Speed SF the instruction was lead follow for a couple laps during the first session, then for rest of the day you are on your own. Check out Sonoma Raceway's website for their performance driving classes.

That was exactly my experience with Speed Ventures as well. I like their organization but I was unimpressed with the instruction. The only club in SoCal that I've found which does in-car instruction for a reasonable price is NASA. Not sure if NASA in Northern California does it in-car, it might be worth asking them.

HoD also has dedicated in-car instructors. I've been pretty happy with them.

Hooked on driving beginner courses are good. They have some class time, a car control course that includes skid pad/figure 8, braking control, etc. then you get 3-4 sessions on track with an instructor in your car, doing lead follow. You also usually have the opportunity to ride along with some of the instructors. When I did this at Laguna Seca the first time I got a ride along in a Ferrari f430 scuderia.

Yep, I did stage one with the Simraceway group. It was a great intro with a gradual progression throughout the day and plenty of instruction, then lead follow with increasing pace....very tailored to where you are in your skill development.
Getting ready for step two which will be HOD at Thunderhill....let me know if you are up for that after you do the stage one.

I'd highly recommend a BMW Car Club High Performance Driving Event for your first track event. You'll have an in-car instructor with you and it is extremely safety-oriented. Classroom instruction session are also included between the track sessions. BMW CCA track schools are very focused on meeting individual students' needs. There's one in November at Thunderhill.
