BMW i8 holds an enviable record for protecting its passengers when a cement truck falls on top of the roof.

Everyone inside the vehicle survived.

To BMW engineers: thank you.

I am definitely on board with that! I'm not exactly too fond of the rear end but my friend has a an i8 and that thing is so damn responsive on the throttle. Can only imagine if it had an extra cylinder and more power.

I drove it several times and I love it, just lack of power.

Lately I came across another review of the i8 and after a year of driving this wonderful car I can say, this review describes the experience I had best.

And the writer is most likely right when he says, that he understands after all, why BMW loses money with every unit. I doubt there will be a successor so quick, since BMW has serious problems and needs to focus on profitable i products now.

I'm more than ever happy to have one of it and also production comes to an end. That's the point when the legend of things begins.

@Mimo M: I don't think the Maserati driver I left behind today thinks the same like you 😉

@yousefnjr: It's not writen that the i3 comes to an end now. Only i8.

Why would anyone buy an i3 instead of Tesla Model 3.....and well....i8 ???
The range and 0-60 times are pathetic compared to Teslas.
I still don't understand why i8 is not equipped with long range batteries and 0-60 times < 3 seconds.

The Tesla 3 is much more expensive despite the MSRP. Most i3's are leased and have a 58-61% residual with the full $7500 fed tax credit. Tesla does not. My i3 lease is $200/mo. With post sale rebates accounting for my down. Can't match than on a Tesla.

Not to mention a model 3 literally looks like a Toyota. Some Toyota's are actually cooler looking.

The i3 at least visually is more out there. Tesla's just look like ducks.

The i3 is quite a bit smaller which may suit some people and is also built by a real car company that knows how to produce quality cars. I'm considering an i3 120ah BEV to complement my M6, I would also consider a Kona and a few other options but never a Tesla.

It's hard to get excited about the i3 considering how weak the range and performance is.

The only thing to maybe get excited about is the ridiculously low lease rates.

But that small sized battery might leave you by the roadside.

And CCS Chargers are still few and far between.

BMW needs to grow the CCS networK.

Smells like an end of production cash grab

Drop a V12 in there and then it'll be interesting

There are a surprising amount of i3 daily drivers who have weekend M cars. The i3 compliments my M3 CS quite nicely for city driving. Lots of instant torque and the carpool sticker bonus.

As a secondary car, it can't be beat. Super low lease payments and a range of 150 miles is perfect for a commute both in Europe and the US.
