Why oh why couldn't they include the physical HVAC and 1-8 hotkey buttons as demo'd on the XM? I really hope they retain those real buttons for all the upcoming LCI's...

I hope those 1-8 macro buttons never die. Best part of the UI imho

The UI for the climate control is a little busy...but anyways BMW will do like all manufacturers and go back to climate buttons. Just look at Audi, back to buttons in the Q4 and GT. They didn't even keep the climate screen like in the A6/A7/Q7.

To me they look like touch sensitive buttons, not actual real clickable buttons.

True, but better than having to drill down six layers through some GUI.

Sorry but I don't see tech at the service of the user, all I see is lazy cost cutting at the expense of the user.

I cant believe I am the only one who finds this kind of stuff extremely inneficient and a total regression.

The system looks easy to use and you don't need to "drill down six layers". I mean, how often does anyone change these settings once you dial them in? And you can use simple voice commands to make climate changes. A lot of fuss over nothing IMO. If you don't like touch screens, probably not the car for you and you definitely won't like what Tesla is doing.

Go back to buttons? I am not so sure.
Look at EQS's hyperscreen - there is not a single physical button.

And it's not about saving money either in case of EQS. Their curved screen and all the actuators for haptic feedback across the huge screens probably cost more for engineering and manufacturing than physical buttons.

I agree with your take.

I test drove an EQS 450+ (without the Hyperscreen) and it is silky smooth and whisper quiet. It is the single motor, rear-wheel drive model but it had all the power a luxury car owner would ever need. If you need all-wheel drive, then you'll have to get their EQS 580 model with dual motors.
