BMW will debut iX M60 and color-changing exterior technology at CES next month

BMW will debut iX M60, color-changing exterior tech at CES
The German automaker will also show off "a cutting-edge in-car movie theater experience."

BMW will have a big presence at CES in January, the automaker confirmed Monday. In addition to debuting the new iX M60 EV, the German automaker is panning to show off a number of new technologies.

The iX M60 will build on the iX xDrive50 we drove back in September. It'll likely have the same 111.5-kilowatt-hour battery pack and dual-motor setup, just with increased output. Considering the iX xDrive50 already makes 516 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque, the M60 should be pretty potent. As with other M-badged BMWs, expect to see different trim and wheel options, as well as some small interior tweaks.

BMW also confirmed it'll show color-changing exterior technology -- and we aren't talking about hue-shifting paint. The company says this tech "changes the exterior color of a vehicle with the touch of a button," and we're really curious to see how this actually works.

Finally, BMW says we'll see "a cutting-edge in-car movie theater experience," though that's all we have for details right now. Whether this is just the ability to play movies on a vehicle's infotainment screen or some other, more immersive technology is anyone's guess. We'll know more when the doors open at CES 2022 in January.

Nah, I think that is hue shifting, like Midnight Purple from the 90's gtr's. I think what they mean is literally changing the color from white to black etc, hence why they are revealing it at CES, a tech fair

Probably electroluminescent paint?

Anyhow, if remote controlled will be a type of electro pigment with conductive coating.

Imagine a hacker gets a hold of the control mechanism for your paint color?

I can see it as a new ransom ware type of situation, "give me $10,000, and I'll change your car color from pink back to the original color "

Pretty funny. However imagine how helpful for a bunch of robbers.
If that will be available with a body changing car like Gina concept but more dramatic, this will be a nightmare for Police…

If remote controlled is clearly not a hue shifting paint but an electric one which is totaly different ballgame as you can change it by will.

Yes, hackers already do that to Tesla's autopilot. I can see it as a new ransom ware type of situation, "give me $10,000 or I'll change your destination to Chicago, West Englewood"

Color changing technology looks good. But what about legal issues? Isn’t the car color registered on licenses and related paper work? Interesting..

Cool stuff but man would i be willing to pay for a car whoms paint dosnt get dirty at all that would be the dream, i always get reminded how shit as dirty the car gets during winter time. Freaking Swedish winters one second its - 20c the next its +5 and slush as winter with salt trucks ridning in convoy. Imagine a paint witch cant get dirty at all i would be paying throu the nose for such a feature. Oh well one can always dream.

I remember this video from a few years ago. You can see everything changing color in the background.

They had that one concept car with the fabric like exterior… not sure how I feel about a color-changing exterior…

Echoing the same. i8 + S58 engine = best seller.

Can the i8 fit the s58 in there?

Edit: s58, not s85, though that would be even better if possible
