My Brooklyn Grey i4 m50 delivered & review

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So here it is finally after sometime waiting for it has been delivered.

I pre ordered mine back when it was released. Then it went in to production around November and wasn't expecting delivery until end of April but it already arrived at the 23/24 of march. So now it has been about a week before being able to pick it up sense i have had it at company for PPF wrap its a Hexis PPF covering 95% of the car, the idea was also to wrap the Rocker panels down low with carbon fibre look but unfortunately it wouldn't stick to the plastic. So had to leave that part out.

I also went with a almost complete de badge including the i4 model code behind. Only have the little M letter in the front, but didn't remove it due to that random hole being left there after that. Also this Monday i will be picking up the 50th anniversary badges at the dealer sense it came after my car was on its way to here.

So this isn't a completely loaded i4 but almost everything you can get i got. I didn't op in for the 20 inch wheels due to range loss i will use the car on occasion to go on 2-3 times a year a trip one way 360 km so i need the range.

So far i have only driven the car around 204 km so that's not much to go on. But so far the car is great to drive, day to day driving is just as awesome as it gets the amount of configurations you can do to the car is very nice, I find my self most of the time driving so far in ECO Pro individual mode around town with B mode for the i3 one pedal drive feeling.

I also took it to some spirited driving today when it was sunny and nice on some really bad B roads with tight turns and it is a very competent car, it corners good in sport mode, it doesn't feel all to heavy until you really push it, you will probably feel it more on the track.

And that is on the 19 inch none performance tires also, so with the 20 inch or 19 inch performance tires it will probably corner even better. Its no M3/M4 nor should it be either but it will give many cars a run for their money in day to day driving so to speak. On track then it will be different.

So far it feels very competent and will probably surprise me even more in the future, the HVAC control is a none issue for me i have it on a short cut on the navigation wheel.

Small annoyance i have found so far is, for some reasons my android auto is messing with the built in Spotify app in the car for whatever reasons sometimes my phone will take charge over the internal built in system and start playing Spotify from the phone instead of the built in app witch reduces sound quality so going to find what setting that is messing with me on this.

I am not sure the backup camera is the greatest out there but it is good enough but i am not sure it is as sharp as it was on my i3 but this could be because it is a 360 camera.

So all in all the car is great and going to enjoy it as much as possible. So now i will post some pictures of it from today's drive. And if you wonder yes my registration plate is literately BMW and it isn't a custom plate it came like that :-)

(Excuse the messy garage so much stuff that needs storing inside due to winter period)

Hey i got my 50th anniversary badges today and did the mod my self in my garage it took me around 1 hour and 30 min.

I thought i can post to you here instead of opening a new thread about this.

So the first pictures is the part numbers i think and also how they look when you get them from BMW.

You have to excuse my horrible guide in terms of pictures. But here goes nothing, first you need good prying tools you also need a nylon fishing line or some form of anti adhesive thing to remove the adhesive that gets left behind.

Tools i used for this.

Ifixit tool kit i used this one (see picture below) it contains both proper prying tools that wont damage the paint when used but also some other good to have stuff. And you will need a fishing line or equal thing to "cut" the adhesive in a controlled manner from the original emblem on the car. And you will also need some form av solvent to remove all the residue from the paint of the car in a safe manner so the new one can be applied properly.

So before i start i set my tools in order again not visible here but all the tools i had were the above and a microfibre cloth to wipe of some moisture that is on the car before starting.

First you pry of the BMW emblem that is sitting on the black/blue foreground attachment, Then it should look something like this. Se picture below.

After that the black/blue plastic attachment will be visible like the picture above, after that you use some good none damaging pry tool for me i use the blue plastic "grips" in the ifixit toolkit, to lift up the attachment so you can add the fish line on both sides and start to do a "Saw motion" while applying light pressure upwards against the black/blue attachment so the adhesive under gets "cut" so it doesn't break apart because its hard plastic the black/blue part. After it pops off you use a cleaning agent to remove the remaining adhesive that is left behind nothing to strong that causes damage to the underlying paint.

Then make sure the paint is dried and any anti adhesive agent is removed from the car paint so you can take the new emblem remove the yellow/white paper that is on the new logo so the new double sided tape is visible and then you simply pop in the new emblem in to the empty space where the original emblem was sitting applying light pressure so it makes a "click" sound so it goes in smooth and nice.

And the finishing result should be something like in the picture below.

And now for the trunk part this one is a bit more sensitive and you need to me even more careful here because of the reverse camera that is in the emblem.

The approach to the back emblem is pretty much the same you use the prying tools in the same way as on the front making sure it is a tool that wont damage the car paint, note that the tools that i used is not something i am guaranteeing you that it wont damage your paint but my experience with it is that it wont damage sensitive areas in the way that i have used them and also my car is fully PPFD so it already has a protection applied to it so i am not in contact with the paint, so you have to do some due diligence to find what works for you.

So i use two of this tools to remove the original emblem and it pops out rather easy surprisingly easy i have to say no hassle at all witch was weird.

After the original emblem pops of you will see this big black plastic that the emblem was attached to yeah that one needs to go also, to remove that one you use the pry tools once again so you can get the fishing line in and start doing a "saw" movement, to cut the adhesive of that is on the car, and you have to use this from all four sides so the camera doesn't get damaged in anyway especially the cables.

After you have done that it should look something like this see picture below. You will also see camera comes along with the black plastic, you have to open the black plastic attachment with an pry tool so you can remove the camera from it,

You will also see a small black plastic gasket that is on the camera this one also needs to be removed because on the new emblem it will already be protected because the black gasket wont fit in the new emblem at least it dint fit in mine. Se picture below (note the picture below is after i removed all adhesive residue.)

So after you have popped of the black plastic there will be a lot of residue left and that needs to be cleaned of carefully so it is all clean and nice behind so the paint is only visible, as you see on this picture below, also the transparent "ring" you see is actually the PFF that they applied because they didn't remove the emblem when applying the PFF

After you have clean all the adhesive that was left behind it is time to apply the new emblem, you have to open the small plastic box and slide the reversing camera in the and lock it in its place all the way so the camera "pops" out of the emblem not quite popping out but as far out as possible, then you lock in in place like it was when you removed the original emblem, after that you remove the yellow paper that is protecting the new adhesive and you pop in in to place applying pressure to the new emblem so it gets stuck in there, note that it is very important to remove any chemicals that might be left behind on the paint that you used to remove the old adhesive residue so the new on sticks on there properly and make sure you are applying "light" pressure to the new emblem so it sticks properly to trunk. Then leave the car sitting so it gets to sit overnight and "dry" in place so it sticks to the car properly the new emblems.

I hope this helped you in some way i am not the best guide write or how to guy on stuff like this but someone that is used to doing stuff like this would probably do it faster then i did.

And i like the new emblems they complete the look of the car idd say :-)

Amazing photos. I don't care for Brooklyn gray on the G80 but it fits on i4. Thanks for sharing!

Nice review. It looks great in that color and I like the debadging. Miles ahead of a Tesla in my opinion.

Any reason you went with Hexis PPF? Or just what your installer uses?

Congrats!

Thank you i am looking forward to learning as much as possible about this car and how it will behave in terms of the longer journeys both during winter and summer. Se how much of the BMW magic is in there.

Thank you i tried really hard i find the morning sun being the best to take pictures in just after the night has passed and just before the evening haze comes along after the sun has had a chance to warm the ground during the day.

Thanks i liked to de badge the car they put at times way to many M badges on cars like this it is a good car no doubt but i don't need that many M badges so left that in the front only because it would leave an ugly hole if i took it out.

I talked to my installer about this and also asked why we shouldn't go for a 3M or such but he said they have very good experience with Hexis and it comes with hydrophobic coating on it, also he said one of the few ones they could leave a 10 year warranty on because they have been working with it for quite some time and was easy to "repair" if you got a stone chip just use some warm water and it would pop out with ease.

I also asked if i should get a ceramic coating on top of it and he said well you can if you want it to be easier to clean but it wouldn't give so much more for the shine effect. So i trusted them in this so it will be interesting to see how it ages with time, and if it delivers what they claim it will do.

I will be going with the E.On home charger with Ip54 Classification due to my garage also acting like a wash place for cars. Then again i got a good price for it but it is a bit away until the electrician comes and does their magic.

Oh trust me thereís a lot of BMW magic in there, I came out of an M5 and Iím enjoying this much more than it which is shocking me. Iím new to electric but you very quickly realise how polished their power delivery is and just how buttery smooth.

I was very lucky that the guy who stalled mine lived 3 minutes away so he came the weekend before I collected the car. Mine is exterior on the garage wall so I was happy the unit I had has an app that I can lock it when away on holidays so no fíer could charge up at my expense.

One of the things I was concerned about ,were the surrounds on the grill.in some cars it looks grey ,yours look black which I much prefer.
Did it come like that or did you modify
How do you find ride comfort
Mine has the m sport seats ,what do you have ?
