Performance vs. All-Season Tires?
Anyone have advice on whether to order performance or all-season tires on my eDrive 40? I live in LA so snow is not an issue. It very occasionally rains and gets down to ~40 degrees F on a few of the coldest winter days.

What are you looking for in a tire ? If you want durability the all season tires are going to last longer. If you like spirited driving the performance tires are going to be more fun
![]() You're ordering a capable vehicle and since there's no winter driving performance would probably be the way to go, but it all depends on what you're expecting. Cheers ! |

I'd probably be inclined to go all season which should last you longer than the performance, but, unless you can get some custom specs for your car, the M sport package kind of defines which tires you are going with. The build your own i4 makes you get the M sport package to get performance tires and all that ends up costing you $3,100 or so more. You get more than just the tires, but I haven't seen a clear explanation if the enhanced suspension will make much of a difference either.
Personally, I'm getting the M sport package, but plan to probably swap to all season after I wear out the first set of tires. I assume that won't be too daunting of a task, but you never know. |

Thanks! I also plan to get the M-Sport package on the eDrive40. I like the look of the car better with the M-Sport package and really like the 859 wheels. I'm also getting it in Portimao blue which is only available with M-Sport.
How bad is durability with performance tires? I like a spirited drive, but I also don't want to be replacing tires every 10k or 15k miles. |

This is a powerful and heavy car, pretty new territory here. My guess is 15-20,000 miles for back set and 25-35,000 on the front set.
I don't have much relevant data to go on this estimate since every car with performance tires I had weighed 1000-1500 lbs less ![]() |

So for reference on my E90, the performance tires that BMW suggested didn't make it to 20k miles.
I'm ordering an M50, so it has performance by default. I hope Conti does a DW or DWS-06 in the right size and weight capacity. I'm in California and this will be my daily driver and performance tires suck in the rain and have terrible wear.

The i4M50 19" option will often come with Goodyear H rated all season tires. This includes the i4 that Throttle House tested. I also noticed the top speed might be limited to 130mph with the H-rated all season tires.

My i4 M50 has the Good Year 19" all season tires with the 860 M wheels and I could not be happier. They look great, feel great, handle well in canyons and are perfect in our mix of street and freeway driving.
The all seasons will last longer than performance tires, and while here in So.Cal we do not get much rain or cold...every Jan and Feb we will have a few weeks where morning temps are around 32F and when it rains in So.Cal....it pours harder than most states (feast or famine here). |

Expect more tire wear/reduced tread life on the i4, either e40 or M50.... weight and regen don't help

M Sport package can be selected with All-Season tires. There is no All Season option for standard Sport trim (18”)
