No drill license plate bracket?

Anyone have a recommendation for a front license plate bracket that doesn't require drilling into grille or bumper?

I recall mention of a 3M double-sided tape used for European plates, but don't know if anyone has used it in the US.

The US front license plate bracket also uses strong adhesive tape instead of drilling.

Interesting to know that attachment apparently requires written confirmation from the vehicle owner....

Interesting… I wonder how easy it is to remove and if it removed cleanly

I'm guessing no to both of those (hence confirmation requirement), but could be wrong....

The badges are also adhesive-attached and most people seem to have no issue removing them cleanly with some heat, dental floss, and patience. The one thing that might make it tricky is if you have to navigate contours behind the holder with the floss.

The possible complicating factor being heat + whatever that self-healing polyurethane coating on the "grille" is, and whether heating it up bonds the tape even more (the coating is obviously heat-labile, and flows when heated), or detaches when pulled. Don't know....

There is a very detailed instruction in the workshop manual about where and how the front license plate holder should be mounted on the car.
Its not only about not interfering with the radar, but also the front camera.

That's how you get it on - I think the secondary issue was how - or if - you can get it off once installed. The degree of installation detail provided (and the required confirmation letter) would indicate that removing it might be difficult or impossible without damaging something, and I'm guessing replacing the magical panel would be astonishingly expensive. But again. I don't think anyone has done it yet.

My iX was delivered today and someone installed the license plate, in spite my specific instructions.

They were able to take fish hook line and cut through the adhesive, and the rest of the tape/glue came out cleanly.

I guess I didn't realize they don't actually drill to install the license plate.

So you actually willing to drive with no front plate and risk getting a ticket haha I was thinking about doing that too but not sure I'm brave enough lol

Yeah, I've done it for a while…I usually get a 100 ticket once a year.

Both the cop and I chuckle.

Yah, I've done this for almost 15 years now on all of my cars and have only gotten pulled over two times. The time my wife was driving, she was given a warning. The time I was driving, I was given a ticket, lol! Though I just double-sided taped the front plate on, took a picture, and got it waived by the court.

Recently the police where I live have said that even though front plates are still required by law, they will not pull someone over solely for the fact they are missing because it's an equity issue that disproportionately affects POC. So I expect it to affect me even less now than twice in 15 years

This appears to depend on region. Looks like the only region that uses adhesive is the USA while others use screws into the grill.

I saw the tow hook cover, I would assume previous bmw tow hook license plate attachments will fit the iX?
