The iX ended up blowing past its 324-mile EPA range rating by 6.5% and finishing up with 345 miles on the trip gauge when the battery was fully depleted. Very few EVs are able to exceed their EPA range rating while being driven at 70 mph, and even fewer do it by as much as 6.5%.

Yesterday drove from SF to Santa Maria : 225 miles 3 hours
Got a consumption of 2.8 m/kwh. But was pushing the car at 80.
I have been impressed with range.

That's a great result, it would be super interesting to see the 22" wheels tested, and the M60.

I've been very impressed with the range as well.

I've been getting 550-575 km of range on a mix of city and highway!

I was consistently doing 75-85 on the way from NJ to Boston and back this weekend. Averaged 3.3 kwh/mi on the trip. Consistent with these results. Got 150kw rate on the 150kw charger up to 80% and 175kw rate on the 350kw charger up 80%.

Tesla should be very worried.

Also to note, i've not once yet had an Electrify America charging failure in 20+ attempts. I consistently see people have issues in Ioniq 5's, Mach-Es, etc, while i just plug in and charge.

The comment section on that article is getting a fair amount of attention, by InsideEVs standards. The commenters either seem impressed, or want to defend Tesla as still being the best in some way or another.

The Teslarati were worried about Ford and VW, and this snuck up on them. Its a grand slam winner, build quality is impeccable, range consistent, and the car is dead quiet and rides like a pillow.

Tesla wasn't prepared for BMW making a better product, despite making the i3 at the same time Tesla launched the Model S.

I came out of an X4MC into it, and its more quiet, better damped and faster in daily driving than any other car i've ever driven. In NJ, you don't pay sales tax on EVs, you get the $7500 federal tax credit, you get 2 year free charging (thats about $4800 in my estimation) and you get $2000 back from PSEG for a home L2 charger + Circuit.

To me it was a no brainer to make the switch. Found it much more luxurious than a standard X5 but i wasn't considering one personally (either was keeping my X4MC, getting an X5MC or getting the iX and opted for the iX).

Yeah i think the real selling point of the car is the ride quality, the lack of interior noise, and the comfortable power delivery. Thats the reason to spend the money. The incentives tip it over. Its not to save on gas prices.

Also to make a statement about wanting to be "green" and worry about being more environmentally conscious. But there are cheaper cars you can buy if you want to do that.

Nothing is worth going back to standing in blowing snow filling up a car at the pump every week, and I'm totally serious. I hate stopping at the pump every damn week. Also the instant torque is addicting.

If you want to "hyper" mile in non-eco mode, I find using "B" around town (from house to highway) and then switching to "D" on the highway with adaptive for better coasting is a good strategy.

This car seems to be more efficient on the highway than in the city in "D" with adaptive, but also seems to add a decent amount to average when in full regen.

I find this strategy usually gets me to 3.3 avg in almost every situation so far.

I just traded in my ‘22 X5 M50i for a 22 iX. MSRP was within $3k for both cars, both fully loaded with the options available at the time (ie only Harman Kardan on the X5). So it’s not more expensive for a roughly equivalent spec. Had B&W been available the X5 would have cost more.

On paper they’re very similar for speed metrics. The iX feels faster. You can’t argue with instant torque. Nothing beats a v8 at WOT (except maybe a flat 6 at 9k RPM), so already miss that. Arguing one being absolutely faster than the other is fruitless. The iX certainly isn’t slower though.

Range is less in the iX. The X5 showed 388 miles on a full tank and I’m getting 3.0 m/kWh so far with spirited driving, which would get around 315 miles. You can’t discount the cost of gas right now, as a full tank was pushing over $100 easily. It’s not the only reason to switch of course. But you can’t ignore it.

In fairness, there are a few things that i consider downgrades from the X5:
- no v8 sound
- less cargo space
- less plush and luxurious overall
- the plastic piece in the headrest - Why?
- lack of sun shades on back seat windows
- climate control via screen rather than buttons

With that said, I don’t regret switching at all. The B&W is an experience, the car rides extremely comfortably, and it feels like it’s truly the next generation of driving.

Nothing to do with being green. I have a MY20 X5 with every option available then - Luggage Package, H&C cupholders, Night Vision, lasers, M Sport, Full Merino, B&W. iX is inbound in a couple of weeks. And it's a $100k car with my options. Because 99% of my driving now is within 50 miles of home, it's a BMW, it has most of the luxury features I optioned on my X5, it actually drives better than my X5, and it costs $5 with my rates for a fillup - which I can do in my garage. Last time I topped up my X5 was over $100, and it's only going to get worse (and actually that is relevant in this scenario). I've traded every 2-3 years-ish anyway, and it's probably a wash cost-wise over a new gasoline car, but for me the convenience is worth it. The driving dynamics is just icing, and we have a matching MY20 X5 if we decide to drive to Alaska next week. Although I might stretch the legs on the iX as the infrastructure grows....

Price is about the same and seems like iX is faster than X5 M50i

Can you please tell where to get that program details for PSEG. I’ve see rebate for charges for PSEG Long Island, but not NJ

For something that have such low interest and sells so little, and costs so much - how and why are automakers dumping so much money into BEV?

This is pretty ugly, but for people who want an X5 suv, it’s a nice Electric alternative. But to be near cost parity with a gas powered car - in this economy (with a lithium shortage) BMW isn’t even trying to make their cars reasonably reflect market costs.

I just feel sorry for then 2nd and 3rd owner of these cars - it’s essentially a brick in less than 10 years with battery degradation factored in
