iX vs X5 - Phytonic Blue Faceoff Comparison Shots

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Today I rode by my local bmw store that I sold my X5 to, they had it detailed and out front, I think it was going to its new home.
So I took some side by side photos for those that may be curious.

Looks great and stunning color (the iX). The X5 does look dated.... First time I really noticed - no shark fin on the iX!

My local dealer told me the other day they are retiring phytonic Blue, no more for new 2023 BMW's.

I don't understand why some agents in dealership like to say random things. This is obviously not true. I can still configure phytonic blue for 2023 iX.

So the iX is essentially the same exterior dimensions as the X5? I couldn't really tell when I drove the iX at an event a few months ago b/c there wasn't anything to compare it to other than the i4. iX is a stunningly good vehicle, but I'm worried my wife will think it's too large. She loves here X3 size for running around town.

As pretty as the X5 is, parked next to the iX, it looks a few generations behind

Badge actually looks slightly smaller, but the roundel has grown (I expect to accommodate the washer), and again, no shark fin on the roof.

I dont really like the proportions of the iX. In my opinion the previous generation X5 was one of the best looking SUVs BMW has made. The new generation looks a little soft from the front, or bulbous.

Aside from physical specs, a good comparison tool for comparing fuel costs from the EPA (you can compare models, manufacturers, wheel sizes, your individual driving data, etc.):

Thanks for the pics. These are extremely helpful. I have seen the iX in person at the dealership but couldn't get such a side by side view with the X5.

I have been evaluating all options to replace my wife's 7 year old SUV (Highlander) with something a little nicer/safer.

I drove and looked at many options. The X5 has always come out on top for me. But I am seriously impressed with the iX and its capabilities lately.

Has anyone driven the base iX 40? Is the range close to the EPA estimate? That might be a great option for us.

While a bit outdated in design, the X5 looks so much better.

The iX looks too much like a MPV.

I can't wait for what I think is the perfect mix: X5 xDrive50e.

My mom's X5 is the same as OP's but in carbon black. I never felt it had the classic beauty for the earlier E53 and E70 X5 models. It looks large and bulbous, a bit fussy in places. But overall still a decent looking vehicle.

iX gives off minivan vibes in comparison.

Personally, I like this tool.

Click on the car (when side view) to switch between them. Almost identical in size.
