Portimao Blue - which color calipers?
I'm getting a Portimao Blue i4. Currently eDrive40 with ZHO unless an M50 allocation opens sooner (unlikely).
On an M50, calipers have to be red with ZHO. On the eDrive40, I can select red or blue brake calipers. Originally I assumed I would get blue ones to match the blue exterior and I'm also getting black leather with blue stitching (I'm a big fan of blue as you can tell). However, I recently saw a Portimao M440i coupe with red calipers and it look great! Awesome contrast and looked very sporty. What do you all think? All the blue calipers close in color to Portimao or do they clash? Is the red contrast a better look? |

If you want it to blend in and be almost unnoticeable, choose blue, otherwise the red calipers contrast better.

When I ordered my i4 M50, I chose blue. The sales mgr. called me and actually said: I changed your order to red calipers. I told him politely to return my order to blue.
The i4 M50 I bought has blue calipers with Portimao blue. I love red calipers, but not on a blue car. All I can see is Superman. LOL Also...sooooo many cars have red calipers. I think the blue is more unique and pretty cool ![]() |

I decided to go with Red Calipers but skip the Black Leather w/ Blue Stitching and just go with Black Sensatec. The red calipers are enough "pizzaz" for me. Thanks for all the input!

I actually prefer the yellow/gold calipers that came on F series sport brakes.
My arctic blue car had those retrofitted. My M50 order is tanzanite with red calipers.

Wait did they change something? When i ordered my m50 in february my ca and i agreed that blue was the way to go for my tanzanite blue/oyster car. Its still in the order bank waiting for allocation but i just checked and realized the 2023s have no such color option - am i really stuck with red??

Stealth is 2022 blue with blue and regular badges.
Fancy is 2023 blue with red and 50th anniversary badges. Dorky is blue without shadowline. All that grey. So I went fancy. |

An architect's opinion. With the Portimao Blue the the most important option to get is extended shadow line trim because being black it just looks better with the blue body paint color than gray does. Red calibers are fine, but they are rather common on many cars right now. I like the blue calipers because it is the traditional M3 sport brakes color and is less common. It is more elegant and subtle than red. On numerous BMW's that I ordered over the last 22 years if I saw something that I liked and it wasn't on the list, I just told the salesperson to track down the order code and do it as a custom option. It worked every time. Sometimes the sales guy balked at first, but I explained that it's possible so please just track down the code and do it. I politely explained that he should talk to his sales manager or talk to your BMW regional rep. That worked every time. My suggestion is that if you like the blue calibers tell your sales guy to just do it because it is important you on your $75,000 car.
