Shot in the dark, but ? re: BMW of Fairfax (VA)

I ordered my i4 m50 from BMW of Fairfax, in Virginia, in January of this year. At the time I was told that I was #35 on the wait list, but based on the pace of allocations they have been getting, I should expect my car in 6-ish months (June/July). I put absolutely no faith in that estimate, but ever since when I have checked with them on status I have been told that almost NO ONE has gotten an i4 from that dealership, including folks that ordered thru them on day 1, that I am now #33 on the waitlist (so I moved up a whopping 2 spots in 10 months), and in fact they haven't gotten any i4 allocations from BMW in months...

I'm just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience from this particular dealer, because I am finding it more and more difficult to believe that a dealer in the heart of northern virginia, where EVs are as popular as anywhere save perhaps California, is getting so few allocations from BMWNA...

oscars2212, I'm also in the DC area. I haven't heard anything specifically about BMW Fairfax, but I've had a really good experience with Passport in Maryland. I put my deposit down in mid August, they got a bunch of allocations on September 9, and mine is already on the boat. I know that BMW of Rockville (which is closer to me) also got several allocations around the same time. Mine is an eDrive40 and all of these discussion boards say that those are being delivered faster than the M50, so that sure could be a factor. But your experience seems quite bad.

For what it's worth, the max dealer processing fee in Maryland is $500 vs. the $800 in Virginia. Certainly not a deal breaker but it's worth calling Rockville, Bethesda, Silver Spring and Passport to see what they have going on.

thanks - yeah I may start calling around, and I have been talking to Silver Spring about some I4's that they have on the way and not already sold, but they are all 40e not m50, and not fully optioned. I mean, just me personally, if I am spending upwards of $60k on a car, I want vented seats!!!

But I do have an x5 45e in production, that I ordered at the end of Sept, and it should be done by Thanksgiving. By a quirk of the change in EV tax credit laws from the IRA in August, that is one of the dozen or so models that still qualifies for a tax credit if delivered by 12/31/22 (even without a purchase contract in place at the time the law changed). So I am probably going to just sit back and wait to see how long it really takes for my i4 to get delivered via BMW of Fairfax, and enjoy the x5 in the meantime!

I lived in Fairfax for 20 years. I never had any good experiences at BMW Fairfax. Always felt the sales people were very shady. I ended up buying 3 BMW's from Passport. Always very professional and great experiences.

thanks - yeah I have purchased BMWs from passport and silver spring (and my current x5 in production was ordered through Sterling), even though fairfax is 3 miles from my house... guess I should have stuck with what worked in the past! oh well.

I believe builds are just going slow. I pre-ordered an M50 in June, 2021 and my vehicle just now got built. It's still sitting in Europe waiting to be transported. If you're getting on the list now, it's gonna be a while unless BMW picks up the pace considerably.

Hello everyone. My first post. So, I just "ordered" the i4 M50 from BMW of York (Pennsylvania) and I'm #12 on the wait list. I was told that a customer who ordered in October last year just received her car yesterday. Also, on average I should expect to sit on the wait list for 4 to 6 months (or longer). They have allocations for the RWD model but nothing for the M50 nor the SUV iX. Cheers!

understood re: slow going. But I also have come to realize that some dealerships are much better than others when it comes to receiving allocation slots, and also in moving people up their wait list. And this dealer is telling me that in over a year, only 2 people that ordered i4 m50's with them have actually had their car built... seems really far-fetched!

I live in Central Virginia (Richmond area) and have had my M50 for more than two months now. However, I think it is pretty much the only one around for miles. When I ran into my dealer's sales manager last week, he said i4s were virtually impossible to get right now as others have mentioned on here.

Several months ago, I test drove the M50 at BMW of Fairfax. I already had a pre-order placed with my local dealer (June 2021), so I didn't go there to buy one. The only demo M50 just happened to be at that dealership. Nonetheless, the sales people did NOT seem very interested nor were they helpful when I arrived after driving more than two hours to get there.

The M Genius or Product Genius or whatever they call this role now at BMW of Fairfax was super cool and knowledgeable though - went with me on the test drive with the M50 - I forgot his name. Highly recommend him as a resource.

If you have a little bit of patience, I can obtain an allocation at MSRP (in due time) but you may have to travel for it.
If you have no patience and want an allocation now, I have a Virginia dealership with an allocation that they are selling at a mark up

I placed an order for an I4 from this dealer in November 2021. Then canceled due in part to chip shortages and I wanted to see if the 400HP xdrive makes it to the states. That was in March so that probably bumped you up one notch

My dealership here in SoCal has only delivered 2-3 M50s so far. My M50 is currently off the coast of Mexico (on Sebring Express) and is supposed to dock at the local port in 24hrs though!

The 6-month ETA they gave you is Bulls***. I was there (Fairfax BMW) two weeks ago asking the same question and they told me that for M50 it is going to be at least 1.5 years and for 40 Drive is going to be 5-6 months. If you haven't paid a non-refundable deposit try Rockville BMW or Arlington.
Arlington gave me 1 year ETA for M50 which is more believable since they are the biggest dealership in the area and they should receive more allocations.

BTW I snatched a canceled 40 Drive order for now. If I like it I will put money down for an M50 later. Either way, I'm not intended to keep my I4 for long since it doesn't have DAPP and PAP.
You should try to contact all dealerships in the DMV area and give them your information in case there is a cancelation but it is highly likely that it will be 40 Drive and definitely without DAPP and PAP.

Guys, you really should hit up Hans (Day Laborer). He found me a car much, much sooner than any dealer within hours of me could. The 1 hr flight/6 hour drive back is well worth the deal he secured and much reduced wait time.

I reserved my I4 M50 at BMW of Fairfax in Virginia also on September 20, 2021. At that time I was #37 on the list and as of the last check I am #7. My car still has not gone into production and of course I have not received it either. Everything that I have read about the production of the M50 (slow production) it appears that it is a 12 to 16 month wait. I am just sitting (not so patiently) by waiting for some good word on when my car will go into production. So, long story short, it is not just you, there seems to be a real delay with the production of the M50 models.

..hey DMV'ers, where is the jury on the BMW of Fairfax (VA) Shop? If the sales team is laggard, at this kind of OTD $$ and waiting period, the double whammy would suck if maintenance/service were at similar competence. I plan to be passing thru, is it worth the drive to look at Passport, Rockville or others?

IMHO you sound legit, and I read positive notes and comments of what you offer that pretty much mirrors my past experience with brokers.

I received a call this morning from Fairfax BMW to let me know I have received an allocation slot. My car is scheduled for production and is scheduled for week 47. Hopefully, there will be no slowdowns or issues and it can move forward. Looking forward to finally being able to watch the production of my vehicle. Good news for sure.

My M50 is now in production as of this morning. I received my production number last Thursday, November 10th and it was in the scheduled for production status. This morning it flipped to production begins and I have a VIN number assigned. The end of production date is November 29, 2022. This has been a long road as I know it has been for all of us. I reserved my M50 on September 20, 2021 so am really glad to finally have movement. Anxiously awaiting delivery which will take a while to get it to the USA but I have movement.

As of this morning I have moved to the next status of Body assembly. If everything continues smoothly, I should have my M50 at the BMW Fairfax dealership in January. Finally movement.
