Genuine BMW WallBox Gen 3 Home Charging Station!!!

Genuine BMW Wallbox Gen 3 Home Charging Station. 9.6kW, T1, UL. The Wallbox is a home charging station for all Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV). This allows safe and quick home charging. In addition to its space-saving, compact dimensions, the Wallbox also delivers convenient cable management including connector and wall holders.

Features/benefits:
  • Safe, fast charging: the Wallbox achieves a significantly shorter charging time compared to the OUC basic cable supplied with the car.
  • Easy to use and convenient cable management: the cable can be hung on the cable holder, there is also a connector holder.
  • Design and function: the Wallbox has a space-saving, compact design and is made of sturdy, weatherproof materials for indoor and outdoor use.
  • Low cost installation: DC fault detection is already integrated into the Wallbox and therefore helps to achieve significant savings in installation costs.
  • Plug & play: once the plug is connected to the vehicle, the charging process starts automatically without any further action being required.
Safety:
  • All installed components are certified to international standards and have been tested by the BMW Group.
  • The BMW Group provides professional installation by an electrician, using a partner.
  • The Wallbox delivers a high level of safety thanks to its compliance with all national requirements, its electrical protection class of IP65 and mechanical protection class of IK09.
  • The Wallbox contains all of the safety technology modules needed to ensure that the car can be charged safely and reliably.
Functionality:
  • The Wallbox can be connected to the home power supply easily and flexibly.
  • The Wallbox supports the specific "time-controlled charging" function. This means that cars can be charged only at certain times, for example to take advantage of cheaper electricity tariffs.
  • Temperature control in the car: The temperature inside the car can be set in advance. In the morning, the customer arrives to find a car that is already charged and warmed or cooled. The energy required for this is provided via the Wallbox when the car is connected and therefore saves on energy that would be used while driving, thereby maximizing the car's range.
  • The status display on the Wallbox is represented by an LED bar on the front of the Wallbox. The display on the Wallbox enables the customer to see the current charging status at a glance even from distance.
  • The Wallbox Service app can be used to keep the Wallbox up to date, change a whole series of settings and view the current device status at any time. It also provides information and instructions for troubleshooting.
The BMW Wallbox home charging station includes the Wallbox, charging cable to the car, and safety guide. The cabling from the house to the Wallbox and fuse are specific to each market and connection case and must be determined on site by the electrician.

Applicable to all Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) including: F30 330e, G20 330e, G26 i4, G30 530e, G11/G12 740e, 745e, G01 X3 30e, F15 X5 40e, G05 X5 45e, I01 i3, I12 i8, I20 iX.

getbmwparts.com is a BMW dealer in Silver Spring, MD. They were one of the better dealers in the MD/DC/VA area when I lived there.

I was about to order this from Get BMW Parts, but after I saw the shipping cost, it was cheaper and quicker to get it locally. I should have it in a few days. Regarding installation, BMW recommends going through Qmerit who has quoted me $800 for installation. That seems awfully high considering it will be installed within a few feet from the actual breaker panel in my garage - and on the very same wall.

The only reason I am considering going through them is that the installation instructions looks rather complicated regarding the using correct BMW DIP switches. Apparently there’s also a $1000 US federal tax credit for installing one of these in your home.

Has anyone installed one of these yet?

I don't want this to come off too negatively but in case you were thinking of doing the install yourself.... this quoted comment suggests that you have no experience whatsoever with doing electrical work. Pay a licensed electrician to install it for you.

I just pulled the trigger on the installation. When you’re paying this much for a vehicle, what’s another $800?

I have no idea since I don’t have it yet. The electricians are coming on Tuesday to install. It’ll be nice having it up and running before I take delivery of my iX M60 next week.

I had a ClipperCreek installed next to my breaker and it came out to $750 (I think). And it was hard wired. $800 seems about right but prices will vary depending on where you live.

The tax credit is for up to 30% of the cost of the EVSE and installation with a cap of $1000. I believe that cap is per EVSE.

Hopefully I’ll get the full credit. The BMW Wallbox was $600 and the installation was $799. At least the guys coming out on Tuesday have installed a few of these. At least it will be done before I have the vehicle.

My electrician charged $750 to install a 60amp breaker and a wall connector so your $800 quote sounds about on par

Thanks for the response. $800 was just for the labor alone to install the Wallbox which was an additional $600.

BMW iX can accept 48A (i.e. 11kW). The BMW Wall Charger can only output 40A (i.e. 9KW). Hence I went with ChargePoint Flex as it can output 48A when it is directly wired.

Please note Qmerit will add a small percentage over the quote from the local electrician. I got better quotes from local electrician.

I was doing some research about the possibility of extending the cable going from the wall box to the car.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask but since I do own the BMW wallbox and want to specifically change /extend the charging cable, I found this thread.

The cable that came with my wallbox is only 5 meters long. I've been using it for a year but honestly it's not ideal.

I was wondering if it's safe/possible to change the cable to a longer one, at least 10 meters. Does anyone have any information about this?
And if yes, will I loose any power? Do I need a thicker cable? I believe right now on the info cluster it shows I'm getting 11kW.

Here in North America, the EVSE cable can be up to 25 feet (~ 7.6 meters) in length. I don't know if the BMW wallbox supports changing out the cable but I know there are EVSE's out there that do and many more that don't.

Yeah after some reading I noticed in USA they have the longer cables. I wonder why not unify the cable lengths for all regions.

I'm trying to find out if changing out the cable is doable or easier than my second option, shifting the wallbox itself.

The cable can certainly be changed as it’s not attached when you take it out of the box. In the US, it is a 25 foot cable.

What about the adaptor side?
The part that goes into the car. I don't know if that's what it's called.

I’ll have to go look, but I don’t think the connector can be separated from that end of the cable.
