Wipers

Hey folks, maybe it will be dumb question, but for various reasons for past 6-7 years I never needed to replace wipers on my cars ( leased them with maintenance included, etc). On iX seems driver side wiper developed some issue/damage and is not cleaning small area, but right in center of my vision/focus point. I check wiper and seems it seems like fully integrated solution with nozzles. Am I missing something or it is not that simple to replace it ?

They are replaceable similar to most modern BMWs.

Replacing the blades is easy enough. Finding non-BMW or OEM parts may be a challenge though. Instructions for changing them out attached...

Yeah I have the same experience. Where the right blade swings over to the driver's side stops literally in the middle of my vision, and it's just blurry with blotches of water right in front of my face, which is irritating. After 7 months/21k and 10k miles in heavy snow/rain, the wipers are finally streaking and not functioning well. I hope BMW replaces wipers under the 3/36k maintenance still. I probably will only get 2 free sets (1 now and another right before 36k in...5 months...?) so I'm not looking forward to having to buy overpriced OEM wipers.

Thanks guys, I was not sure on detaching hoses connection and they seems don’t detail that part much in instructions, but I can try. Anybody has part numbers ?

I don’t believe the included maintenance covers brake pads or wiper blades any longer unless you have ultimate care+ which is a complete waste of money on an EV since BMW has set prices across their entire fleet of vehicles. I just went through this when I purchased my iX in January. Those are really the only two things that require maintenance on these vehicles, so ultimate care+ isn’t really worth it IMHO…

In the US, ultimate care+ cost an additional $700 (for any 2023 vehicle) to add these items under the BMW’s 4 year/50,000 mile warranty. The other stuff that it normally covers does not apply to EVs.

Yep, I don't think it is covered as well, so need to do something myself. Need to find where to source them.

It’s not covered. I don’t know why I said maybe. They actually dropped coverage for wiper blades and brake pads several years ago across the entire lineup.

Exception: if you can find some way for them to say it’s defective, then it might be covered under warranty. Just not maintenance.

I’ve said it once, I’ve said many times, and I’ll keep saying it. This is why you should always take care of your service advisor with gift cards, occasional concert or sporting events tickets. A little appreciation goes a long way.

Still covered under warranty in New Zealand :-) only things not covered are tyres and glass (unless there’s a recall or manufacturer defect)

Can't find the part number for it. I'm wondering if we can figure out how to just replace the rubber blade part instead of the whole assembly? I Googled for it and can't find anyone who has it in stock and will ask my dealer.

My IX was at the dealership this week and they ordered new blades. 3 week wait to arrive from Germany.

Coincidentally just asked my dealer about this last week. Definitely not covered and they want $70 to change them out. Might just get them to do it, ordering online plus shipping comes out to over $60 ...

Did replacement resolve your issue? Don't want to pay to replace and have it do nothing thanks!

A trick I read about somewhere is to clean the blade with a cloth soaked in WD40. I have used this on other cars where wipers were streaking and it worked very well.
