Randon settings reset - petty but annoying
About every 5-7 days, the “beep on lock/unlock” setting gets reset. I have it set NOT to beep, but after 5-7 days, it resets and starts beeping every time I walk in the driveway.
Does anyone know why this happens? Would like to attribute to OTA update, but that has never happened (at least as far as I know). Suggestions/speculation appreciated! |

I assume you have rebooted at least once? Removing and reinstalling profile? Those are quick "rule out" measures that may - or may not - resolve before advancing to nuclear options.

No, a normal reboot is not likely to change any settings - although it could change some settings (more likely with a diagnostic reboot, another time). Easily restored by just resetting. A reboot just clears the memory in the "computer" and restarts - just like restarting your PC or MAC to restore stability, and there are several threads already on this. Hold down the Volume scroll button (with the car on) until the screen blanks, then release and wait for it to come back on. That's it. The car sometimes needs to go through a "sleep" cycle - short or long: turn off the car, exit, lock and walk away for an hour or so, sometimes overnight. This may or may not fix a software glitch with iD8, but always worth a try.
Next step up, failing a reboot, is to remove your profile and reinstall, since the comfort settings are stored in your profile. Ensure that you have "sync" turned on so the BMW server retains your settings, then go into your profile, remove it and re-add it. That should clear out any gremlins left in your profile. These are things you can do, relatively easily, don't take much time, and might work. Next step (from a user perspective) is a factory reset, which we won't entertain just yet. Or, alternatively, take to your dealer, who will likely do the same steps, but can run diagnostics to see which fault codes show up (if any). iDrive 8 is a complex operating system, but most solutions are thankfully software related and relatively easy to fix. My old pathology prof told me that when you hear hoofbeats behind you on a Missouri back road, think mules, not zebras. ![]() Last edited by Paladin1; 06-05-2023 at 07:59 PM.. |

If you have this checked in your BMW ID settings in the car, it will save your settings for your profile specifically, in real time, to the BMW servers.

I work in IT and know it is never just one thing, especially if I cannot predictably and consistently recreate the behavior. Bigger question is “what else”? Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I have tried all of them to no avail…. 😝 |

Factory reset yet? It involves setting up the car again, and restoring your settings, but semi-rules out software problems and helps to further isolate to some hardware module fault. Alternatively your dealer should be able to run diagnostics on the car and see fault codes that have occurred to see what else might be affecting your settings (as you note, just because you have one thing wrong doesn't mean you don't have two). And if you don’t have the latest OS version (up to 3/2023.53 I believe) it's an excellent opportunity for your dealer to flash to the latest to see if that resolves.

I have the same issue on my 2023 760 and it’s very annoying. Climate Sync is the primary setting that just won’t save for me. It always disables itself after leaving the car for 1-2 hours. There are some other settings that are “forgotten” over time as well such as WiFi hotspot on/off and ambient light setting.
I’m taking my car to the dealer tomorrow for a full reinstall of the software as I’ve tried reboot, factory reset and nothing helps. |
