Modern Spare's solution is a 29" diameter tire and a 4,000# scissor jack. I would be more comfortable with a spare that is closer to the 31" stock wheel diameter and a bottle jack that can handle a heavier load.

Did you actually watch the video on this page titled “How Is Our 18″ Spare Tire Fully Compatible With All Wheel Sizes Offered On Your BMW iX?” Most vehicles don’t come with a spare that’s the same size at the factory rim unless it’s a truck or a Jeep.

Agreed but is that the case with the iX? Or BMW in general? I've always either had a full size spare or RFT tires on BMW, I've never seen an undersized spare used by the Bavarians.

The G30 spare tire kit that came with the 5-Series was a donut. In fact, here is the same OEM spare tire kit put together piece by piece into one kit. Note that this used to only cost $150 from the factory, but dealers never ordered vehicles with them. I never understood that because these could easily be removed from the trunk.

That spare for the G30 is ~26” which is the same size as the stock G30 wheel diameter. Not a donut that is 2” shorter.

Hi,
Here in sunny Abu Dhabi - all new BMWs are supplied with a spare wheel, including the iX.
But - on the iX it seriously reduces the trunk space.
The spare wheel is very heavy as it cleverly has the jack nested inside it.
This is then strapped down inside the now tiny trunk!
There is no way my wife would be able to remove this and replace a flat tyre at the side of the road!
First thing I did was to remove this useless spare wheel and replace it with a mobility kit that I placed under the trunk floor.
Once the original fit 22 inch tyres wear out - I will probably replace them with runflats (no idea why BMW don’t fit runflats as standard - as they are available in this size and load variant)
Picture below of how spare looked in our iX

Is there a BMW part number for that? I’m planning a very long trip this autumn and I have been looking for just that solution.

Hi,
There are no part numbers on the spare wheel cover or kit.
Here are some photos that show what it looks like when you unzip the cover.
The jack, wheel brace etc. are cleverly packed in a foam insert inside the spare wheel.
The wheel itself is a 19” space saver wheel (despite our car having 22” OE wheels)

That’s a 29” spare similar to the one offered by Modern Spare. Interesting.

Piecing together the BMW parts will cost 10 times more. Just like the G30 spare tire kit I showed you above. That was a $150 option from the factory, yet it’s over $1,000 to order it retail. I do like the tool organizer though on it and this one on the iX.

FYI, it will not be one single part number for all of that. Each tool has its own part number including the organizer tray. I did my research when I tried to piece together the G30 spare tire kit which did not come with mine. The G30 link I shared above was a package put together by a BMW online parts retailer.

Perhaps someone can reach out to that retailer to see if they can put a package together using OEM parts like they did for the other one.

Two things I do to mitigate no spare — and of course the iX comes with BMW’s mobility kit.

But if one were to try the kit and it did not work (of course a major gash can not be fixed with any kit)…

1) This tiny tire pump saved my bacon in the middle of nowhere Montana pumping up a massive Corvette rear tire twice to get me 50 miles into a town — @$40 though there are cheaper ones that also work well:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

2) And/or this cheap ($6) tire plug kit: https://www.amazon.com/Slime-20049-P...b_search_bia_t

The two together will easily fit below the rear carbon floor.

Going spare-less, I've always used and recommended a high quality compressor like one of VIAIR's, and a tire repair/plug kit (both will fit nicely with lots of other stuff under the rear cargo floor):

https://www.amazon.com/VIAIR-85P-Por...0036E9VB6&th=1

https://www.amazon.com/Rhino-USA-Rep...1&sr=1-39&th=1

You'll never wish for a lower quality or slower compressor in the middle of the Mojave desert with a flat...
