Porsche Taycan GTS v BMW iX M60 v Chinese Teslas - Drag Race [Carwow]

BIMMERPOST

It’s time for an almighty Germany vs. China electric car showdown!

We’ve got our hands on the Human Horizons HiPhi Z & HiPhi X, and they’re going up against the Porsche Taycan GTS and BMW iX M60! The question is, which is the quickest? Well, let’s take a look at the stats.

Starting with the HiPhi Z, it comes equipped with two electric motors that can put down 672hp and 820Nm. All that power means it’s pretty heavy, mind, coming in at 2,539kg, and it costs around £90,000.

Alongside it we have the Porsche Taycan GTS. It also comes with two electric motors, but it’s down on power compared to the HiPhi, able to produce 598hp and 850Nm of torque. It’s the lightest car here, at 2,310kg, but it’s also more expensive than the HiPhi Z, coming in at around £111,000.

Then we get to the SUVs. Starting with the HiPhi X, it comes with two electric motors that can produce 598hp and 820Nm. It tips the scales at 2,580kg, and it has a price tag of around £93,000.

Then finally we come to the BMW iX M60. It’s the heaviest car here (just!) at 2,584kg, but it also has a boatload of power, with its two electric motors producing 619hp and 1,100Nm! But not only is it the heaviest, it’s also the most expensive, costing around £123,000!

So will China come out on top? Or will it be a clean sweep for the Germans? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Soon, people are going to build EVs in their backyards.

The iX M60 is such a fantastic daily driver though. Easy to live with other than that dumb front design. It reminds me most of my 2017 B7. For day to day driving its a rocket moves in and out of traffic and rides great. Had it 13 months and 28k miles it makes my daily commute a breeze.

But which one will catch fire first?

I actually don't know to be honest.

Would I own one? Sure if they are the right price! Just don't park in the garage and make sure the doors have a mechanical open lever.

It is actually best when quiet. It is so satisfying hearing the loud wailing engine of the losing car next to you!

Before my iX M60, I had a 2022 M4 and a 2021 392 Wrangler. These days, when I see a loud car, it just reminds of that empty suit of a guy who is loud as hell, making a ton of noise but at the end of the day can't get the job done.

Most of modern ICE cars are not having loud noise because of the regulations, but still for us enthusiasts we wanna hear some noise and be connected to the car when you drive, the feel of the engine is different even if the car is not loud or very fast, EV’s are not slow, but the feeling is just a direct torque of fast speed and thats it, you can’t even modify the car 😂 i dont think there is 1 car enthusiast in the world specially sports cars will choose an EV over ICE

Just direct torque? Actually the throttle pedal instantly affects the pressure you feel pressing you into the seat. Its so precise and addicting. I would rather be connected to instant acceleration than instant noise. ICE power band on the other hand just feels like an antiquated rubber band. It's worse than it would appear on paper specs. When you floor an ICE with an auto (which most are nowadays), the engine has weak acceleration, then down shifts, builds boost, and then upshifts (unless you drive in manual) when you let off the throttle. An EV is just pure and direct. You can always go from full throttle/decel, with no wait for the transmission/turbo lag, etc, when going through the transitions. Watch the Edmunds U-Drag and see how a Model Y Perf beat the noisy, raucous Durango Hellcat with almost double the HP.

Yes, you can always tell when that happens when you see a surge of pointless low quality posts from ICE fans.

I drove a ix for a little bit lately and I have to say, it's awesome. It's more than quick enough and the interior and drive is awesome. I def would drive one for a DD.

Another classic, walkie-talkie driven clown video by CarWow. These guys probably talk to each other over walkie-talkies even when they’re not on video. There’s absolutely nothing scientific about anything that they do. Zero.

I’m not sure his intent is to be scientifically precise but rather just garner views on their YouTube channel. It’s entertainment if nothing else.

Yup, Youtube is an entertainment platform, and it doesn't pretend to be anything else. The content creators on the other hand...

For anyone with an iX M60, what is that launch mode "shaking" they demonstrated? What is the vehicle actually doing?

Disproving your theory, I'm a car enthusiast (and there are quite a few on this forum), who has owned and driven an M3, M5 and R8, along with quite a few other "enthusiast" cars. And I drive an iX currently, and much prefer it in just about every way over an ICE car. So there's that.

You cite sound but the reality is that cars like the M3 (which it seems you drive) don't even sound very good. I will miss the raucous 6.4L V8 that was in my 392 Wrangler and I wish I afford a Lexus LFA or something with a V12. But I traded in my 2022 M4 (for an iX M60) because it actually sounded annoying to me. Let's be real - those Mopar and Shelby guys openly make fun of how the M3 (and cars like it) sound. If you like the sound of the S58, that's cool - more power to you, but to me, that was hardly a reason not to get an EV.

As to feeling "connected to the car" - what is more connected than the car actually going when you press down on the throttle, instead of that delay you encounter with ICE engines. My wife also has an EV (i4 M50). We also have an X7 for family duties. My wife awhile ago drove the X7 for the first time in a long time and she said the car was so unresponsive that she thought she had left it in neutral or something was wrong with the transmission.
