BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Yesterday, we took delivery of my wife’s 2024 iX xDrive 50. We seriously considered a 2024 X5 50e, which IMHO, is vastly improved compared to the 45e we test drove last year. However, at the end of the day, we didn’t want to revert back to ICE/PHEV after enjoying my wife’s VW ID.4. I gotta say, the ID.4 was fantastic, and it’s what started the whole BEV experience for us. We took possession of the ID.4 last Nov 2022, and by Jan 2023, I sold my 2022 M4Cx for my 2023 i4 M50. Not sure I’ll ever go back to ICE, but that M2CS is looking pretty good!

Anyway, after bailing on our custom order 50e, my dealer was able to locate an iX that fit our wants from a dealer several states away. Sport and 22” were non-negotiables for me (I mean my wife, right?! Lol), and this car just got off the boat last week. We really lucked out. The paint is in terrific shape. I was worried the car had been sitting on a lot collecting bird droppings, but it really is minty fresh!!

We haven’t done much driving with the iX. Like always, I told the dealer not to wash, prep, or even stare at the paint for fear of receiving no-charge swirls. So I’ve been busy doing a little detail myself. I also did a quick reflector delete with some left over vinyl I had laying around, and it came out great. I’m too cheap for IND painted reflectors. Word to the wise however, I unfortunately managed to scrap a little bit of paint around my rear right passenger red reflector. Not really noticeable, just looks like some residual wax, but I was saddened to see it given my OCD. Other “mods” in the works, tint the front windows and black out rear emblems. I’m not really into modding, but I think those would improve the look a bit.

Overall, we are pleased with the car, and fingers crossed that it’s just as reliable as my i4 has been (and even our previous ID.4). Still working my way around idrive 8.5

Congrats!

My wife has same color spec inside and out, also with 22” (but the bicolor)

How did you do black out the emblems?

I did the emblems old school with Hyperdip (glossy plastidip). Again, I’m too cheap, which is why I do vinyl wrap reflector delete and spray blacked out emblems. Lol

Isn’t the rear hatch window already tinted from the factory?

. Moved to the tint thread, but rear tint is additive - no limit on that here, and the back stays really cool. No visibility problems at all.

But isn’t the rear hatch darker than 35%?

Rear looks close to the stated factory 20% of the rear windows, but tint is (sort of) additive - if you layer tint each layer darkens it - 35% VLT coming through the tint from the back glass, whatever the tint in it (the percentages are not exactly additive, but light transmission is reduced). The aftermarket tint also rejects UV better than integral factory tint. I thought it might be too dark, but actually is perfect for keeping heat out of that big rear expanse (next to the windshield and sunroof the largest piece of glass in the car), and you do have a rearview camera.

Must be a slow Monday for my thread to make the front page of BP, and a thread on the iX to boot! Haha

This is actually my second BP cover page thread! However, I doubt this iX cover will garner as much attention as my first one:

Wow....after looking at the incredible list of cars that you've owned, especially the M cars, I'd love to know how what drove you to go electric. I know recent M-cars have actually "softened" despite being faster than the previous, however, the softening that has gone into electric cars is magnified by a factor of 10; at least from the experience I've had. Then there are the looks....the older cars have these beat by a country mile.

Regardless....as long as your happy thats all that matters. Good luck with them!

Is the floor a "mat" that just sits on top of the concrete? The pattern is pretty cool.

Also a fellow Pennsylvanian (19518) - not too far from BMW of Reading (which is where it looks like where one of your photos was taken).
