'23 to '24

I was able to trade out of my financed '23 into a lease for this new '24 iX50 using the discounts and lease credits to offset most of the rapid depreciation. I am not sure if I will miss the air suspension, but think iDrive 8.5 and Highway Assistant will make up for it in some ways and this also addresses some electronic gremlins that apparently lived in my '23. It does have the redesigned seats, but I am 6'2 so they never bothered me in the original form.

Most importantly, for me only, I can stop running the "what will this be worth in X and what will the next error be" scenarios in my mind and just enjoy it for three years.

(I promise I won't do a ton of mural pics again. Maybe.)

Air suspension makes a huge difference. ID8.5 isn’t much of a huge upgrade. Highway assistant is nice but whether it’s worth $10-15k of depreciation to get it is up to you I guess.

I drove both my 2022 iX50 with air suspension and a 2024 iX50 without air suspension and you definitely feel a LOT more road imperfections without the air suspension. Your roads may not be as terrible as ours in CA where you care.

CONGRATS! I personally will take air suspension over iDrive 8.5. The majority of our roads in California are actually & literally crumbling (as is the entire state )

Air Suspension is a must for me. I think this is one of the big reasons I hated my Model Y Performance so much (brutal rough).

I agree with you....leasing is a freedom worrying about depreciation!

There is some difference in the ride, but I am one of the ones like likes to feel the road, or at least that is what I am telling myself.

Also, what I have really not added is there was something wrong with my last one that started when the rear daytime running lights went out during a software upgrade and caused little errors all over the place that most always went away, but I constantly needed to reboot almost once a day. The dealer did all they could do to fix that and the last software got the lights working again, but I just didn't trust it in the long run always waiting for a new error. They were too minor to qualify for a lemon law but my dealer was proactive and, while not quite an even swap, my loss was essentially limited to the price difference between the two cars (since the paint was $2K) and I walked away into a lease with zero down and a payment that is $100 more a month but no depreciation risk on me at the end.

I agree with you guys that this is a matter of preference. I have a car with air suspension and the iX without. I tested the iX with air suspension as well. No chance I would pay for that option, the iX runs great as it is. Don’t think it’s necessary or even obvious when driving.

I thought the same thing about the turning back wheels, but after getting a car that has them, I must say it’s quite comfortable. Again, I wouldn’t pay for the option though.

Everyone should test drive and decide for themselves, don’t think this is a clear-cut issue either way.

An hours test drive of the y long range around 15 months ago was enough to convince me about what I didn't want from an ev. The NVH was at a different level. The IX though ticked the boxes.

My rear DRL still do not illuminate during the day. BUT...I have now seen at least 12 iX driving around my area, and not one has rear DRL.

At first I was so annoyed, but since I have Sport Pkg. the rear tail lights are smoked and darkened, and they actually look really cool not illuminated during the day.

Also, without rear DRL, when you step on the brake, it is even more noticeable to the driver behind you.

I have made peace with no rear DRL, and even shocked myself....I like it way more now without them

We just took delivery of our ‘24 iX 50 w/out air suspension. It was a dealer locate, but I didn’t feel the need to custom build for the option or pay. Seems fine. Now obviously I wouldn’t refuse delivery if it had the option, but it feels like a BMW which is what we are use to. I will say driving home after delivery, and getting use to the car, if felt slightly jarring, but then I noticed the tire psi was close to 50 all around! So much for PDI lol

As a side, IDK about the lack of rear DRL. Need to check mine. Also, a little annoyed our car didn’t come with the standard 407 sky lounge led roof as indicated in the order guide. I think I read this option has never been available here in the US, but then why is listed in the order guide? Anyone make a complaint?

SkyLounge LED roof is a huge misnomer on the part of BMW USA. The IX roof is electrochromic in all markets. It does not have LED lights like some other BMWs. It never has. If your IX has a glass roof then it’s optioned as expected.

Agreed. BMWUSA needs to change the 407 description in the order guides

Qns - so if you don't want air suspension, does it come with Adaptive M Suspension with M-Sport pkg?

from my personal pref. my first two x5 I opted for air suspension and there was heavy body roll every time I turn the roundabout, may be I drive too fast...lol

after that I opted for Adaptive M suspension with M-Sport pkg on X5. No issue of body roll at fast turn.

From my understanding, MSport package is simply cosmetic. iX suspension is either fixed/steel springs or air/adjustable bags, no adaptive M suspension.

If you were happy with adaptive m suspension and body roll, you should drive an x5 with the very rare dynamic handling package with active stabilization. My previous X5 M50i w/DHP and X5M defied physics!

Agree
I came from 2 X5's with air suspension component and now have the
IX on springs and the X7 with dhp (or Executive drive pro with IAS as called in the UK) its amazing how a big beast with a raised centre of gravity like the X7 corners flat and is so easy to maneuver around.

Yeah I don't have X5M with DHP. Only X5 with M-sport pkg with Adaptive M.

After I drove back Adaptive M suspension, never went back with air/standard suspension.

since you have iX on springs/ without air-suspension, have you tried roundabout at 45-60 mph? how's the body roll?

Looks like you are in UK, you can find plenty of roundabout in UK vs US to the roll test

Potholes..broken roads .. cycle lanes.. roundabouts..traffic lights..roundabouts with traffic signals..the theme is anti car..Good news is the ix on springs handles it all very well. 45-60mph @roundabout or b roads in the villages no problem and the grip is phenomenal.

Where I live in the US of A, we don't have these problems, potholes..broken roads.

Good to know there is no body roll w/springs.

Now, it would be great if someone w/air suspension could do a similar test.
