Do you have the new head unit or the older one? If you have the new one i am not sure it is possible to code any-more the one based on Android rather then Linux.
If you have the old one then it is possible but you have to do it in expert mode you can both code off the sound the car makes at low speeds and also the backing up sound. I think its under the ASD module you have to go in to expert mode and change some of the sound files to wav17 or so i can't remember now. Then the sound is silent and you will avoid error codes that comes with deactivating a certain "feature" so to speak.

If you’re talking about the pedestrian warning sound that turns on when backing up or moving forward slowly, you can’t code that off, it’s a mandatory safety feature, even if it were possible, you’d be opening yourself to legal trouble if something happens.

Is this the pulsating beep(ish) sound when backing up? Its awful. Came here to see if there were any options to tell my poor neighbor that has this car. We live in close proximity to each other and the poor guy is sounding an alarm to the entire neighborhood every time he backs into his garage.
I looked around on YouTube but all they have is a steady humming sound. Was that from previous years? |

Can anyone confirm this is actually running through the ASD module? Unplugging it should do the trick. This is one of many things I dislike about the I4.

Change or disable PWS (pedestrian warning system) sounds
I've been wanting to do this for a while too, and figured it out today.
In Bimmercode, go to: Receiver Audio Module -> Expert Mode -> 3001 Audio und ASD -> VSG_WAVE_FILES The default sound is file 11. If you select file_6, file_14, or file_15 and then code, these are all silent. Coding these will disable the sound without generating warnings in iDrive. The other files (1-5, 7-10, 11-13) are a variety of different blends of pitches. I have audio recordings of all of them attached to this post as 3 zip files. file_8 and file_9 are lower pitched and a little more subtle than the default sound. I like 8, and that's what I'm using now. |

I'm going to try this soon. Do you have the Pro license of Bimmercode or just the Basic license. I am trying to figure out whether this Expert setting is available for me with the Basic license. Also, when opening the 'Default' sound #11 from the files you posted, I only hear a hiss? So, that file is then the one we could use to replace the pulsating loud sound? Thanks for your help. ![]() |

I had a loaner i4 (2024) and noticed that it had the sound but my 01/19/23 did not.

The sound coding worked for me.
I tried a few different sound options but pretty much all the ones I tried were completely silent. Can't remember all the ones I tried, but I did try 8 and 9 since I wanted a low pitch option, but got no sound whatsoever from them. I am fine with it being silent, but would've been nice to have it be a low humming or something. I'll try all of them in a couple days. It's just time consuming since you have to: run diagnostic mode, connect to Bimmercode, change option, code, disconnect, exit diagnostic mode, and then do the whole thing all over again for the next option. And yes, it takes a little bit to go through the process and change everything each time. Much quicker if you use an ethernet ODB adapter rather than bluetooth. |

Yup. I can confirm the loud, pulsating sound was the original sound. Now the only sound is the music coming from the car itself.
