Valet Parking Mode

I played around with the valet parking mode today. When I activated it, the climate control turned on automatically and was set to 72F even with the drive-ready state being off. Since the control display is disabled in the valet parking mode, one cannot turn off the climate control or adjust the temperature. Any way to turn off climate control in the valet parking mode? I assume the climate control will turn off when the car is locked. I couldn’t test it since I only had my phone with me and digital key plus doesn’t work in the valet parking mode, so I couldn’t lock the car.

Hellooo!

I think I can answer your questions and I'll also include a few tips down below as well!

Activating Valet Parking Mode will result in the following:
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will be disabled and it will give your phone, if connected, "the boot"
- The control display will be locked and all that you will be able to do is adjust the temperature of the climate control (it will default to 72 degrees), adjust the speed of the fan, and access the "Check Control" menu to see if there is anything wrong with the car.
- The instrument cluster will change and will only show you a digital speedometer - I'm not sure if the Head - Up Display is affected or if it is even usable while in Valet mode.
- The Ambient lighting color will change to white and the brightness will dim
- The control display will show you all of the driver profiles that the car has
- I also believe the radio becomes inoperable as well.

Deactivating Valet Parking mode
- Can be done by manually selecting your driver profile and typing in your 4 - digit pin number.
- If, for whatever reason, you forget your 4 - digit pin, the car will ask if you forgot your pin and will give you the option to either log in via scanning with the myBMW app or inputting your login credentials
- Once you have deactivated Valet Parking Mode, the car would then default back to your profile's settings
(e.g., Bluetooth will be enabled, your phone will automatically connect, etc.)

Tip for accessing Valet Parking Mode when the ignition is switched off
- You can have the "Activate Valet Parking Mode" option pop up on the control display each and every time you turn the vehicle off - it will appear in the "Goodbye" menu.
- To enable this: All Apps --> System Settings --> Notifications --> Notifications at end of trip -->select "Valet Parking Mode"

Assuming you've done everything right, whenever you turn off your vehicle, the car will ask if you would like to Activate Valet Parking Mode
- If Yes, select the option as you exit the vehicle
- If No, just ignore the screen

Additional Tips/Notes
- The climate control will switch off when you lock the vehicle, but when you have the "Turn off when door open" setting enabled, the screen and climate control will both turn off as soon as you open the door
- As long as the engine/ignition is off, you can also hold the volume knob for ~ 3 seconds, which will result in both the screen and climate control turning off
- Keep in mind that you can always track your car with the myBMW app and you can also get a live exterior and interior view of your iX with the myBMW app via the Drive Recorder and Interior Camera settings/features.
- To keep things consistent, I usually recommend folks to set their 4 - digit pin number to the same 4 - digit pin number that you need to access/use the myBMW app, but you can also have the two pin numbers be different as well.
- To make things easier for both you and the valet attendant, in addition to enabling the "Turn off when door opens" feature, I would also enable the Emergency Parking Brake to automatically enable whenever the vehicle is turned off (e.g., turning off your iX will have the Parking brake AND Emergency Parking Brake both activating simultaneously - another perk you get is the emergency brake will automatically disengage whenever the vehicle is shifted into either "D" or "N"

Anyways, I hope I was able to answer your question and I hope the information provided above can also benefit you as well!

Please let me (us) know if you have any additional questions!

PS - I do NOT know if your iX can be charged while in Valet Parking Mode and I mention this in the off-chance that a valet service offers Electric Vehicle (EV) charging!

Best,
Cameron

Thank you! Let me double check if the fan speed and temperature can be adjusted in the valet parking mode.

As an FYI , I use the Valet mode all the time and the attendant was able to charge the car for me.

Kenneth, I was wondering the same thing, as my building's garage recharges my car. Good to know that activating Valet Mode doesn't disable charging.

To save me some app/menu searching, where do you find "Turn off when door open" and "Emergency Parking Brake to automatically enable whenever the vehicle is turned off"?

Thanks.

Here's where you set the "Turn Off When Door Open". It's in the "Lock/Unlock" submenu.

Hello!

The "Emergency Parking Brake to automatically enable whenever the vehicle is turned off" setting/feature, for some odd reason, is buried relatively deep within the system's settings - another oddity is that this feature is enabled by default from the factory on the X1 and X2??

Anyways, here is how you find the setting using iDrive 8.5
NOTE: I'm not sure if iDrive 8 users have the same feature/option/setting, but I would assume it would be found in the same place as iDrive 8.5

NOTE: To Enable this setting, the vehicle's engine must be ON or in "Ready - to - Drive" mode

All Apps --> Driving Settings --> Drivetrain and Chassis --> Parking Brake (under the "Chassis" menu) --> Enable the "Apply Automatically" setting

Assuming you did everything right, the Parking Brake will automatically engage whenever the vehicle is switched off. You can actually hit two birds with one stone; if you are in "D" and you turn off the car, both the parking brake and emergency brake will both engage simultaneously!

Another cool feature is that shifting into either "D" or "R" will automatically disengage the emergency parking brake

Lastly, to my knowledge, this feature/setting has 0 impact on the "Auto Hold" Feature or any other feature of the car (e.g., Driver Assistance Professional, Parking Assistance, etc.)

Anyways, I hope this helps and please let me (us) know if you have any additional questions/comments/concerns

Stay safe BMW Fam - Bam!

Hello BMW Brother/Sister,

Thanks for your reply on where to find the "Turn off when Door Open" setting/option!

However, I noticed in your picture that you have the "Unlock Doors when in P" setting ENABLED...

That setting makes me a little nervous in terms of your safety. So whenever you press the "P" button, ALL 4 doors will automatically unlock, even if the ignition is still switched on! To further make things worse, the iX has a near-silent unlocking/locking door mechanism, and one of the only visual cues you have inside the car as to the status of your door accessibility is the little RED light that illuminates when the doors are locked and will NOT illuminate when the doors are unlocked - I hope that makes sense?

No shade/judgement to you (or any others) who have said setting enabled and like/enjoy said setting, but just thought I'd make you aware of the setting that is enabled in your vehicle! Again - Safety reasons

"Unlock doors at End of Trip" is a better alternative, which will result in all 4 doors unlocking once the engine/ignition is switched off (I have this setting enabled)

Again, no shade/judgement! We all family!

Anyways,

Y'all stay safe out there!

Cameron
