Change or disable PWS (pedestrian warning system) external sounds
I've been wanting to do this for a while, and figured it out today in Expert Mode in Bimmercode.
In Bimmercode, go to: Receiver Audio Module -> Expert Mode -> 3001 Audio und ASD -> VSG_WAVE_FILES The default sound is file 11. If you select file_6, file_14, or file_15 and then code, these are all silent. Coding these will disable the sound without generating warnings in iDrive. The other files (1-5, 7-10, 11-13) are a variety of different blends of pitches. I have audio recordings of all of them attached to this post as 3 zip files. file_8 and file_9 are lower pitched and a little more subtle than the default sound. I like 8, and that's what I'm using now. |

Interesting, thank you.
Do you happen to know whether the Veepeak ODBCheck BLE Bluetooth adaptor will work with i4 & Bimmercode? Before I shell out £50 for Bimmercode it would be nice to confirm it'll work with my adaptor - the app says BLE+ plus model is compatible, but maybe that's listed because my old one is no longer available to buy. |

Connecting and coding a change maybe takes a minute with an ethernet connection, and can easily be 5x longer with bluetooth (at least, the one I bought initially). There is also a higher chance of corruption of files if the connection is dropped during coding. |

It would be interesting to compare the default settings on older cars, to newer ones (2024 model year?) that have that much louder, more annoying sound. If I had a newer car, I'd really want to switch to the sound the early cars like mine have.

I tried wave files 3 and 11 and both were silent
My PWS was defaulted to wave file 10 so I tried changing it to 11 and 3 and both were silent. Do I need to change another setting somewhere? Is there a way to hear the wave files when you are in the actual app? Thanks in advance.

This works correct, but i am not sure it does for the newest cars because BMW did change how the coding works or so i have read so i am not sure you can do it on MY2024-2025 models, some coding will be broken on newest models. But for those with the older ones get an Wi-Fi module it is a bit more expensive but hella more stable and faster so so much faster, and i would recommend to do it either on an tablet or so because remember when coding with bimmercode an default is saved or so to say backed up so if you change phone often then use a tablet if you keep your phone as long as your car then its fine.

Thanks for sharing, I will have to change mine, but also interested in the backup sound to be more subtle. Any insight into that?

These sounds are barely audible from inside the car, and they provide a good use. As someone who walks through parking lots to get to my car, I prefer them on and at their full volume.

That might be true for your car (and mine), but starting sometime in the 2024 model year, they changed the sounds dramatically. Owners of newer cars have a very good reason to want to change the sound and try to get something close to what we have with the older cars.

I tried the 2 different files suggested and it didn't work on the LCI - there were no sounds at all in Drive or Reverse. The default in LCI was file 10, btw. Didn't have time to try other files, maybe later this week I will.

Sooo, anybody that owns a 2025 i4 (or late 2024 model) with the loud pulsating sound while in reverse can confirm that you were successfully able to swap/deactivate the sound via Bimmercode? I am reading comments that the older models (2023 and earlier) can but have not seen confirmation on newer models.

That is correct. It got rid of the reverse and also forward moving noise.
