Venting about vents
The placement of vents in this car is madness, and it’s a problem now in every car with this massive display.
I wanted to share my partial solution. Put the A/C on auto on low temp and aim both main upper vents at your face and the left vent by the window as high as it will go. Manual mode doesn’t work well at all. Obviously put individual settings as cold as they will go. This vent seems to be placed simply to cool down the screen. When I’m in our Merc the a/c is so much colder and quieter and the vents are wonderfully placed. |

And the iX vents are better than i5 and i7. It takes me near endless fiddling to try and even get some cold air on my face in my i7 (i5 was the same). It is maddening!!
i4 still has good, standard vents and the vents in our 8 Series are great! |

The X7 is just as bad. On hot days it makes me want to sell the car. The M3 vents were great and it had the big screen/display, so I don’t understand why “minimalism” overtook good air flow and redirection mechanisms.

However, I would like to add that the M3 (I assume you're referring to the PRE-LCI M3) still had its climate control settings separate from the main iDrive screen. Why am I mentioning this? I mention this because as soon as you get in the M3 on a hot day, you can immediately hit "MAX A/C" BUTTON and get things going. However, for the LCI X7 and with the same scenario, you have to first wait for the screen to load up and I think you also have to remove/accept the disclaimer screen, BEFORE you can access the climate menu, in which there you can activate "MAX A/C" .... Now I know why many are complaining about the climate control in the LCI models - the longer I have to wait in a hot car for the screen to load up to get the A/C going, the more annoyed and frustrated I become! The M3 was very straightforward, start the car and press "MAX A/C" .... literally takes less than 5 seconds.... I love BMW, but if "doing too much" and "overly - complicated" were to have a picture? You would see iDrive 8 and iDrive 8.5 standing in front of it... Anyways, y'all be easy and stay safe! FUN FACT: The gasoline LCI X5/X6/X7's have remote start, but if your vehicle is on "Fuel Reserve" (e.g., 40 miles of range remaining), then remote start will not activate.... the PRE-LCI's didn't have this restriction and both the climate control and the display come on with a remote start... |

One of the things I have noticed with all my modern BMWs is that the vents don't give me a satisfying rush of air that hits my face in most settings. It seems to diffuse before it reaches me and most of the time I can barely feel it if at all. Although they have all done a great job of cooling the cabin and I have liked the auto climate in every one of them, sometimes you just want to feel the cold air hitting your face on a hot and sweaty day, usually just for a few minutes. I want to say it is by design and that it helps bring the cabin as a whole to the set temperature faster, but maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part trying to justify why my expensive car has shitty ventilation. Thoughts? |

I think you're right, and this could be a German cultural thing. From having lived there for a decade, I noticed that German people often do not like to feel cold air blowing on them (especially on the face).

THIS. Absolutely this, 100%!!! It drives me nuts with not wanting air hitting the face, no cross drafts at home, turning the A/C off when needed. Most Germans are NEUROTIC with cold air blowing!!!
