Tonight I was sitting in my iX while parked outside a store. My daughter ran inside to buy something. While waiting for her to return to the car, I locked the doors by pressing the door lock button on the driver's side door. The lock icon was illuminated red.

When my daughter came back to the car, she was able to walk right up to the car and open it, even though the door lock icon was illuminated red.

This concerns me because if I am parked in a parking lot, I want to make sure the doors are locked and no one can just open my doors.

Am I making an error? Is there some setting I should adjust so the doors are fully locked while I am inside the car while parked? Does my car need to be serviced?

No, she does not have any key including on her phone.

Was the passenger door lock also red? Is the locking function set to All vs Driver? I’m not as familiar with the settings so just trying to think of what could cause that…

Thank you for the detailed reply. I am 90 percent sure the passenger side door lock emblem was also illuminated. My settings are set to lock all doors, not just the drivers side door, and unlock on P is not selected.

I’d keep testing it out. Maybe there’s a defect. Certainly should not open if it says it’s locked and the person outside doesn’t have a key. That’s a safety issue obviously.

I always lock my husband out by accident so apparently mine is working just fine!
