buying an second hand M50 with towbar
i am in the UK and am looking at buying an i4 M50 from bwm approved scheme - so cars are checked and covered by a warranty
now the car i am looking at has a town bar which i assume is an added extra. but my understanding is that with ICE cars people say avoid cars with tow bars as towing can cause issues with the clutch etc. on an EV does the same advice apply. is there any reason not to buy an M50 just because it has a tow bar |

I'd not worry about it. Nobody is buying an i4 as a serious towing vehicle. It was probably used once or twice at most, and even more likely never at all.

With the rear air springs to control the height, I bet the i4 can actually tow a good amount of weight without issue. Looks like a 1600kg rating, or about 3500 lbs, but that's with a braked trailer. Half that without. Damn, I might get me a hitch now.

Well, if it's a factory mounted towbar I wouldn't worry at all about it.
Besides, there is no clutch in an EV. ![]() The only thing I would check for are marks on the rear bumper since some people can't back up to a trailer without hitting anything. I got it as part of a package "Charged", ZN4, which also added heated steering wheel and a wireless charging pad for the phone, when I ordered my car. |
