HiFi OEM amp v's Alpine HiFi upgrade amp.

Is there a difference in power output between the OEM HiFi amp and the Alpine upgrade HiFi amp?

Are they the same internally, but externally different looking.

I only have the base stereo so I don't have any amp in my car, but I saw an Alpine HiFi amp at the dealer in a display cabinet an it looks so small.

I don't know what technology the old amp is

But I would be guessing its a class AB amp as it was released in 06.
The newer amps are full range class D which means they can be much smaller
due to switching technology in the amp itself.
Much more power is packed in a much smaller package .
Do a search on the two technologies there are some trade offs.

The original HI Fi amp is rated at 25 per channel for the doors and 40 for the floors. (at 2 ohms)
I have read the Alpine is 85 per channel rms at 4 ohms.

A better substitute for the HI FI is the JL XD 600/6 as it has 6 channels but the speakers
should be upgraded to take the new power.

That's interesting.
The OEM HiFi amp has staggered power where as the Alpine channels has all the same power.

Does that mean if using the Alpine amp the front components will overpower the underseat subs.

Alpine system was for the ampless base system

I know they supply upgraded doors for the front and tweeters .
They must compensate for this somehow.
The alpine retrofit was not designed to be part of a HI FI system retrofit as far
as I have read .

Do a search on the Alpine on this board a lot of things will show up.

Mine is the base stereo but I will be upgrading, however I have decided I wont be installing the Alpine upgrade.

This is my goal.

Morel Hybrid Ovation II for front and rear
Morel 9" ADMW under seat woofer's
Morel Integra centre and finally Morel Ultimo 12".

TruTechnology amps and an JBL MS8 for processing.

Oh boy and I can't wait.
