BMW test drives the cars a few miles/ kms at the factory. If something isnt entirely correct, they correct it and drive it, again.

How would you know? Even if it were so and they tested my car at least twice as hard as the others' and fixed a lot I wouldn't be happy about it. I'd rather like them to assemble the car properly at once, especially as they can do it, reportedly.

Of course they don't test drive. A new car needs a run-in, they say. Some gentle driving can be done for transportation purposes (according to factory videos) but that's just a bit. I know engines are (can be?) tested on a stand before installation (connection to an odometer ) though.

I don't trust a dealer to do that. When I saw the car with 2.5 km in the dealer's showroom it was clean, etc. Ready to be received. They take liberties.

at 54:00 and again at 58:00 all the way through 1:01. They even accelerate after the 1:00:00 hour mark.

"Shit happens", they say: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1762670. Stand quality check testing in the factory is fine, but leisure driving to the far left looks "pretty" doubtful. What's that? Is it every car indeed? They take no obligations regarding initial mileage but the "lottery ticket" is quite expensive. I'd like to have no doubts for the money (in the positive sense).

But do they drive all cars on the road? It looks quite lonely out there.

From my friend who retired as a QC inspector at the Greer plant a couple of years ago.

“All the cars go thru dyno testing which only lasts maybe 5-7 minutes to get up to temperature and checks engine performance, torque, etc …… all cars go thru what they call short track, which is a series of bumps and turns to check steering and for rattles, rolling objects, etc. It's indoors and probably lasts 3-4 minutes. A certain percentage of cars go to road test to test on long test track. I'm thinking the long test track is probably 10-15 minutes per car, not necessarily the driving is that long, but the documentation that goes with it. When new models are first beginning production a higher percentage go to road test for the long track test. Long track is outdoors and has everything the short track does, but extra things like high speed ramped curves, etc. As the production process gets better, a smaller percentage will need to go to the long track. Most everything that gets reworked will have to go back thru dyno or short or long tracks depending on what was reworked. I don't think the dyno would be equivalent of more than 5 miles. The short track is probably 1/4 mile and road test is probably 1/2 to 3/4 mile.

Actually, before the final drive off of the conveyor belt, the mileage is reset to zero when they perform the last computer test to check for any errors or codes. From that point the mileage starts rolling, which includes the drive to the train car or truck or performance center for customer pickup, add to that what gets added at the port or ship dealership or wherever the car needs driven after the final test and it's driven out the door.”

Check that out!! They all have mileage on them that gets reset to zero before they leave the factory!! I say we should all file a class action lawsuit!!!
