2023 BMW i4 coding retrofitted parts
I am considering retrofitting the ACC & Stop & Go into the US specs BMW i4 which which I took delivery without DAPP.
The hardware (second hand radar and steering wheel buttons) can be installed, but is it possible to code it to work? I have found on other forum some successful retrofits (e.g. laser lights) with coding completed early this year. I have read on iX forum that BMW moved to cloud based coding and the *custom* coding is over. Can anyone confirm if that is applicable to BMW i4 as well? Many Thanks K Last edited by Krzysiek_KTA; 05-10-2023 at 05:19 PM.. |

March 2023 firmware and later will be taking more nad more vehicles that weren't SC2.0 to that platform, then there is no downgrade possible once you take it ![]() The iX and i7 and X1 are the only vehicle that were SC2.0 from inception in 2023. You should be good by my gut estimate assuming you didn't have recent warranty work at the dealer requiring coding. My mothers i4 just received November 22 firmware OTA a few weeks ago. |

So, is it safe to assume I would be able to code retrofits with proper software? Many Thanks, K Last edited by Krzysiek_KTA; 05-06-2023 at 07:13 AM.. |

ESYS, PSdZDATA & likely a launcher/token solution as I'm not sure everything you need will be taken care of via VO Coding alone. You will require some FDL coding which needs a token solution. ie. TokenMaster ESYS Launcher Pro 5.x; Bimmer Utility, etc.

My guess is you can do a lot of the coding with bimmercode in expert mode if you know what you are looking for, for example if you have ACC and DAPP you can go in to bimmercode expert mode and see everything there for example you can see and change among the settings to unlock certain features if you know what you are doing for example in the US you have something called Driving assistant plus to activate on highways this setting can be turned on via bimmercode for EU you can also turn on some other features that is in the car but not fully activated like certain lane holding settings and such.
My guess is if you your self decide to retrofit it without dealer help then it is probably possible to code it so it function, but if you car doesn't have it from the start you might then get issues when an OTA comes along and flashes all settings to zero and you would have to recode everything again. So it depends do it your self but deal with the coding hassle and flash wipe every time an OTA comes along or go through a dealer if they can help and make it part of the car.

can i find somewhere the exact indication what to do to get driving assist plus and automatic lane change in my i4? i have now OS8 03/2023.37 and as you certainly know, this two items are not enabled in EU. There are present since i have DAP package… Thanks for the answer (unfortunately as you will certainly know there are not present in our i4 talks…) |

This is definitely one of those retrofits that'll be a lot cheaper and less stressful if you just trade in your car for one with DAPP. Otherwise you are going to need to re-engineer everything BMW put together to get ACC to work properly, both hardware and coding. And you'd be the first to do it. Swapping out headlights is way different than what you're trying to accomplish.

Things like DAPP really necessitate buying a new car if you don't have it. It's typically more costly that just swapping for a different car.

I am not even thinking for retrofitting DAPP. To have DAPP, swapping the car with new one with DAPP is the only option. Nevertheless it would end up easily around $10k or more to shell out. All that to just o have ACC functionality I really need? I don't think so.... I just want simple ACC with Stop & Go which is available only in EU. That should ld require standard radar sensor (EU) and steering wheel buttons, and possibly new harness (all together $500-$700 second hand). Definitely worth the try (I believe) Will see... Thanks for feedback K Last edited by Krzysiek_KTA; 05-10-2023 at 07:04 PM.. |

I have just taken out a bumper out of my car to inspect the harness installed there - not good findings discovered.
The harness in my car (it is 61125A50538 Made in Tunisia) does not have connector for radar. Moreover after more thorough inspection looks like the connectors of the other harnesses (parts no. 6 and 5 in above diagram) have exactly same number of wires as the no.2 harness connectors in my car. That observation implies that to connect the installed radar also the no.6 harness and no. 5 harness is needed. I assume it is no.6 harness which connects to the ECU - if indeed that is needed to be replaced then that would be the showstopper for my project. K |

ACC is FSC locked. Retrofit is not possible.
