parking assistance - should I trust it more?

Living in a city, I do quite a lot of tight parallel parking, tight front or rear parking. Sometimes I just let it do front parking and relax in the seat.

For parallel parking, sometimes I feel like it is moving too fast and I end up intervening to slow it down. Although I always feel like I'm about to hit the car behind me, I've been starting to trust the system more. It works well when there's no car coming from behind.

For front parking, especially at the apartment garage, I have someone else's car parked on the left and a pillar on the right. Everytime the car goes so close to the pillar at speed I feel not so comfortable with, I end up breaking and/or canceling. I know it has many sensors and stuff but it often gets too close. Perhaps it would stop quickly before hitting the pillar but I was being cautious.

Should I stop worrying about it and trust the feature more? This is all assuming the objects near the car are not moving. I wouldn't fully trust it when there's other cars moving around or parked car has driver in it, but when everything is stationary, I am still not sure if parking assistance has records of hitting something due to potential sensor blind spot or anything (it doesn't ever get too close to other cars but it gets pretty close to the pillar - like half inch between side mirror and the pillar)

I use it occasionally, but I don’t like how’s it parked far away from the curb.

yeah sometimes it is not close enough to curb after parallel parking so I end up making adjustments. Oftentimes it's good enough.

Even for rear/front parking, it doesn't go in all the way so sometimes I move a bit more which is easy.

Maybe I will just take chance and not stop iX from parking even when it's too close to the pillar...worst case it will get some scratch (hopefully not a dent)

The parking feature seems to be getting less and less reliable after every software update. When the car was new, it parked pretty much flawlessly. Now, unfortunately, I feel like it gets too close to things and often I've had to step on the brake to keep it from running into the car behind. The vehicle completely ignores parking space markers when parallel parking, often parking across lines.

I trust it. I’ve had it get close to objects to the point that the PDC starts sounding rapidly and the distance blocks on the screen turn red, but it always corrects and winds up very nicely parked.

I don't think I let it go long enough because as soon as those red blocks pop up and the PDC starts screaming I slam on the brakes! lol

Since one day machines and AI will rule us, I have decided to place my complete trust in same now so as to ease the eventual transition.

I feel like it is faster, more responsive, and more aggressive. I'm sure some people definitely prefer the current behavior. Even with assisted driving, it seems to be breaking much later when coming to stop than it used to with new update. After the update, I often breaked manually because I thought adaptive cruise control wasn't working properly.

I will let parking assist do its work going forward and report back if it ever hits the pillar in my parking garage haha

I use it all the time. I just keep my foot on the brake and when it gets close I start applying pressure until I fully engage the brake and it will typically start adjusting itself into the space forward and back. Bottom line - it is a feature but you are still ultimately responsible for any consequences.

For me the hardest part of parallel parking is when to start turning the wheel as you back in. I would be willing to let the iX initiate the wheel turn and then take over. I don’t trust it enough to avoid low obstacles like the curb.

I use the top-down surround view a lot. It’s a feature I didn’t have in my prior vehicles and one I want going forward.
