By default, each time your start your car, the air suspension defaults to "comfort". You have the manually enable "sport" mode each time to have the firmer air suspension settings.

If you are feeling the ride to be a little rougher compared to the M60 you previously test drove, I suspect it might be due to tire/wheel size. The 21" tires are much more comfortable than the 22" tires. Could that be difference?

I can raise the suspension when stationary but I believe this is for slow maneouvering off road, and it appears to return to normal over a certain speed? Can you change the suspension settings so you can have it softer or firmer please?

2) In the modes section you have things like efficiency, relax etc which all seem to have presets on how the car is set up as well as the "iconic sound" it uses, and then there's one called "personal", can you configure this yourself as I couldn't find a way to do it? I was hoping that I could set it to comfort suspension but sport throttle response like I've been able to do in previous 'M' cars, can this be done? With regards to the other modes can you tweak these? It would be nice to choose different iconic sounds as I'm not too fond of the Orchestral ones

3) Is there somewhere that explains exactly what each mode does as the manual doesn't say anything, it just says you can choose between Personal, Sport, Efficient, Expressive, Digital Art, Relax and Silent

Apoogies for all the questions.
The personal mode is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn’t let you configure much of anything other than the instrument panel and HUD layout. Most of the different my modes just change the ambient lighting, sounds, turn massage on or off, make the roof transparent or opaque, etc. A few like efficient and sport will alter the throttle response, etc. If you check the settings for each in iDrive you might see a bit of what each mode does. The air suspension doesn’t have specific comfort or sport settings per se, but according to the manual the “chassis” (maybe meaning suspension) is altered in sport mode.

It had the same wheels as mine, it’s was an identical car about from the panoramic roof which mine doesn’t have.

I’m wondering if it’s that mine’s new and maybe it takes time for the rubber airbags of the suspension to soften up?

Thanks, strange you can’t tweak the settings to your taste, every M and M sport Beemer I’ve had has allowed you to pick and choose

If I set up eSIM card, will the cars connectivity improve? Car uses T-Mobile which is weak here in northern ca, will it pull up Spotify music faster? Will the TiVo app load video faster?

Since the eSIM isn’t required for the TiVo app, I’m not sure if it would use that connectivity. It’s not that the car uses T-Mobile, but if that’s your cell carrier then that is how the eSIM will be activated.

This is a new direction I think BMW is going with the “my modes” approach.

Yeah, also a dryer plug with a wall mounted EVSE is fine, rather than hard wiring.

I took the question to be more about “why do cars have j1772 or j3400 ports instead of just letting us plug the car directly into a NEMA 14-50 dryer plug?”. Or same question another way, “why is the EVSE separate from the car and not built in?”.

It’s because the whole point of the EVSE is to ensure safe and reliable connection to the power, which by definition requires a more advanced connector and communication in the connection.

Not hard wiring the charger does limit you to 40 amps of power, though.

Technically yes the EVSE components could be in the car but the circuits it would be allowed to connect to would need to be standardized in terms of how much amperage they have to support. Right now, the EVSEs are programmed to output the correct amperage when installed and this depends on the wiring used and what the breaker is rated for (and these two should be inline with each other). The EVSE doesn't really have a way to know if it can run 30 amps max or 48... it relies on the installer/owner to set that when the installation is done. So having it in the car would make it much more likely that you try to pull more amps than you should on a circuit. This could either trip the breaker (if you are lucky) or worst case cause a fire. Hence why it makes more sense to have that piece of equipment at each charging source instead of in the vehicle.

Can you set the default mode the car starts in please? Everytime I start the car it reverts to the personal mode and I'd like it to be in sport by default but I've been through every settings menu I can find and can't find a way to set the default mode

Thanks, found it, as you say. It’s in the adaptive content section when in Sport Mode.

You can’t set it for sport mode.

When you set the mode from the My Modes button look on the left side screen(UK) there is a settings tab for that mode. Tap that then in the widget for the mode is a toggle top right that you can switch to use as startup. This can be set in Personal, Efficient, Expressive and I think maybe relax modes. I’m on 07/2024 software, not sure if yours is the same?

Can't be sport as the startup mode and not efficient either (at least in the US).

Hi LV, Just for info...You can have start mode set in 6 of the My Modes. This is Uk and 07/2024 software. Strange if this is not possible in the US?

Looks the same to me. The addition of some cosmetic lines doesn't materially change anything for me.
