Pardon the electric noob.

I'm thinking of giving up my '22 M3 (my fourth M3 over 25 years) and getting a G26. Initially, I figured an IC M440i but now I'm thinking that for my use case an i4 x40 might work well. (I am fine with dialing back the sport a bit.) When I price MY2025 cars (I'm picky on colors) outt the M440i comes to 68,725 as I would option it and the i4 X40 comes to 71,925. And I would need to get some electrical work done in my garage to accommodate the i4.

Where I am totally lost is on rebates or tax credits or whatever for EVs. I have never leased and would prefer to purchase. I am a resident of Oregon, if that matters. Any wisdom for me? Thanks!

Strongly, strongly consider leasing an EV. There are many reasons not the least of which is: You do not get a tax credit on a BMW EV because of the restrictions on the manufacturer (e.g., cannot be a foreign made vehicle). You do, however, get a credit if you lease (currently $7500 on the i4) due to a different interpretation of the tax credit on a lease vs purchase.

You also might want to consider talking to a broker (there are many reputable ones on the Lease Hackr website) for the maximum possible discount off MSRP.

Update: I have weighed the ICE vs electric question and decided on ICE. I certainly take your well-put point on leasing an EV.
