As for wedges -

I currently have in the rotation:

- 64* $5 bargain bin find that for some reason just works really well for me
- 60* high bounce callaway jaws
- 56* high bounce callaway jaws
- 52* high bounce callaway jaws
- 60* low bounce PXG wedge
- 54* low bounce PXG wedge

Thinking of picking up some Vokeys at some point and seeing what all the hype's about, I may go full Titleist on my next set.

Yardage - I hit my 60* about 100-105 carry at full strength, but almost never hit it full strength. The 60-64 are typically reserved for short floppy shots around the green where I have a narrow landing area or slope that runs away from me. I hit the 52* about 115-120y, and the 54-56 is like my 110-ish club. I can maaaaybe crank the 52 out to 125, but realistically I usually just hit a soft PW instead. My PW covers me anywhere from 130-145, 9i gets me about 145-160, 8i gets me 160-175, 7i is 175-190, 6i is 190-205, 5i 205-220, 4i 220-235, then it goes to my 3H, 3W, DOD.

Lower end of the range is a relaxed swing, high end is cranking it 100%.
Thank you for the detailed response! Def helps alot! I never used my wedges at the range to see how how I can hit them or have a consistent yardage range for each one. So that is why I am asking to get a ball park.

Since I got a 60*, I will take that to a range with a Tracker so I can see how my yardage stacks up first then go from there. I am looking at a 52* and a 56*. I had that for my old wedges and they worked for me. I have a PW and SW too. So I think I am going to get those two additional wedges to round out my bag.

I just recently heard about the Vokeys. Let me know what you think of them if and when you purchase them.

In my bag is currently:

TaylorMade MG2 52° - 125 yards
TaylorMade MG3 56° - 110 yards
TaylorMade MG3 58° - 100 yards
Ping Eye2 62° - only hit it out of the bunkers. Have had this club for over 35 years

Used to have original Volkey 56° and 60° and replaced last season with the MG.
For the life of me I could never hit the 60°. Would always either hit it fat or thin and had no confidence in it so rarely pulled it out of the bag.

I was looking at the MG's but my golf coach told me to look at the Cleveland RTX6's and I was looking and reading all of the reviews and they all seem pretty damn amazing! So there is a sale going on right now for them and I have picked up the 60* locally to me and bought the 56* yesterday and a local guy is selling a brand new one that I will pick up tomorrow for a decent price.

I plan on keeping these wedges for a long time so I don't mind paying a little extra.

I change my wedges more than any other club. Well except rotqting through the collection of putters that seem to go hot and cold. LOL

I change wedges buying new models of the same ones because I am convinced using them 4 days a week for 2-3 years wears the grooves down. Even if not after they've been dragged thru desert and hit other hard surfaces they need replacement by then.

And I am about to call my club and ask to order a new 54 degree Cleveland RTX for me. it has had a hard 3 years.

I wish I played as much as you but I only play once per week from April - end of Aug for my golf league then a few more times during each month. So I don't use my clubs as much as you do but I do want to invest and buy a great set of wedges. My 56* Cleveland RTX6 wedge will be delivered today. Can't wait! Might hold off until I buy a 52* but I might just do it! lol

Yeah at the rate you are playing they will last a long time. believe it or not when you can play as much as I am sometimes you wake up and think "I'd rather sit outside and play guitar". hard to believe I know.

On a side note I am scheduled for a fitting at PXG Monday. Thinking new irons and fairway woods could be the answer to why I'm not a scratch golfer who hits the ball 300 yards. Well, actually probably age and talent is the reason but I can't buy either of those.

I can't wait until I can play 3-4 times per week! I like early tee times and have rest of the day to do what ever is on the wife's "To Do" list! lol.

Awesome! Let me know how it goes. There is one close to me that I might look into after the golf season is over.

Played yesterday and wondering why I'm looking at clubs. I didn't win any skins but hey that always comes down to making a putt on the right hole. Well still going Monday. Only costs $25 for a fitting and I might discover a different shaft in the irons is even easier to hit. Or maybe they are just purtier.

I tell myself the same. When I get my current 20+ year old irons, they feel good but I know the technology alone would make things easier for me. I am 1-2 years out from getting new irons. Like what I have said here in the past, I want to work on my swing first and be more consistent before dropping a lot of money on a good set.

Doesn't hurt to look and swing them! Who knows, might be something they offer that fits perfectly with your swing.

I spent 45 minutes in a PGA store yesterday without buying anything. Is that even possible? Figured i would have at least grabbed some balls. On my golf to do list is to start the process of finding a new driver. Might just do a fitting and get some data to help drive the purchasing decision. I know I need a stiffer shaft and probably lower loft. Why are new drivers 600 bucks?? Darnit.....

That is pretty impressive and I don't think I would have been able to do that to be honest. At least purchase a few dozen golf balls or tee's. Can't ever have too many balls and tee's!

I bought my driver with upgraded extra stiff shaft brand new for $300.

- Driver head: Taylormade Qi10 with 9* loft
- Shaft: Fujikura Motore XF1 7-X Extra Stiff

I put up my new extra large golf net and golf mat yesterday...felt like I hit the driver well, but it's hard to see how the ball looks if I don't have a sim in the back tracking the ball and providing all of the details. So I need to make that as my next purchase!

And that driver was new?? I couldn't find any new drivers under 500 bucks unless I was wanting a Wilson, Tour Edge or other value brand.

Yes it was. Still in the plastic wrapper and all.

My pro instructor sent me a link to one of his contacts that I was able to get it for that price. The driver head was last years model.

Want me to send you the link? it's an ebay link.

So last night was the first work golf league night! I went to the range before hand to warm up and to hit a quick 20 balls before my tee time at 5:21.

Overall, during the course of the 9 holes, the driver was feeling great and so were the long irons. Hitting those pretty damn well.

First tee shot went 298 around some trees and in the middle of the fairway with my next shot being about 54 yards to the pin. Let me just say, the theme last night was my short short game needs a lot of help 100 yard in..muffed almost all of my chip shots and lots of 3 putts. Couldn't believe it.

The last hole was longest drive competition. (We have three holes that are for, closest to pin, longest putt and longest drive). I hit the most satisfying drive ever in my life, a low line drive missile shot that went 323. (I think that won it). The 4 of us were all just like, holy shit!...then I muffled my approach shot and 3 putted to end the round. lol. I have a lot of work to do on my short game. Confidence isn't there and it shows.

The Callaway pre-owned site is fantastic for great deals on still-new-in-plastic-but-last-years-model clubs. Snagged my Odyssey Tri-Hot triple-wide blade putter for like $175, thing was still in the plastic, $400 new price tag still on it.There's a guy on reddit I forget his name but have his email - if you reach out to him directly he'll do his best to hand-pick the best examples of whatever you're looking for for you. And they have a whole section of "other brands" so you can still get Titleists and Pings and everything.

I agree with you on that. If you don't need the latest and greatest, then go with last years model. That is what I did and I saved a lot of money by doing so. Especially coming from a 10+ old Ping driver to my Qi10 driver..is a night and day difference!

I am looking at revamping my lower irons. I never use my 3i and seldom use my 4i. Anyone have any recommendations on a hybrid? Not looking to pack my bag full of clubs...more so downsizing a little. Should I stick with the Qi brand?

I have the Ping G30 hybrid 3 and 4 irons (as well as the same thing in a 3 wood). I really like all 3 clubs. Now the driver...that thing can find the nearest pond and sink.

I didn't do much of a cross shop though as I wanted to stay within the Ping brand. I think you can get the newer Ping 425's in hybrids at a discount now.

Thank you! I don't want to cross shop too much to be honest. I would like to stick with Taylormade for my hybrid as I have it for my driver.

Talked to my golf instructor yesterday and he said to get the Taylormade Qi10 Rescue Max. Told me to hit a 3, 4 and 5 to see the distances and go from there. He also mentioned to get the hybrid in a stiff shaft so it closely resembles my driver shaft. So I will do just that. I plan on calling up Dicks Sporting Goods and Golf Exchange by me to see if they have any demo Taylormade hybrids of the above configurations that I can try today after work. Would like to get 1 or 2 purchased here over the next few days!

Update:

Went to Dicks Sporting Goods yesterday after work and was able to hit a few TaylorMade hybrids.

First I hit the Qi10 Rescue Max 4 hybrid with a regular shaft and hit the ball pretty damn well. Averaged around 175-190 yards. Felt great hitting the ball! Shots seemed pure with a few outliers.

Then, I hit the Qi35 Rescue Max 4 hybrid with a stiff shaft. Head felt a tab bit heavier, but I was able to hit the ball pretty consistently. I was averaging 217-237ish yards with it. I hit my Qi10 driver with an extra stiff shaft about 280-310.

So I reached out to my golf instructor to get his take on this and let me know his thoughts. I bought the above Qi10 hybrid because it was just an insane deal. Now I am having a little buyers remorse. I loved the Qi35 and the ability to change the loft settings and able to change the shaft with ease. But do I want to miss match my Driver model and my Hybrid model? I am not sure.

Oh, I also traded my old Ping G30 driver and got $69 for it to put towards the hybrid.

Another update after posting the above:

Just heard back from my golf instructor and he wants me to get into a hybrid with the stiff shaft and believes the regular shaft will by too whippy and inconsistent for me with the golf ball being too spinny.

So now, thinking about going back to return the Qi10 and get the Qi35 with the ability to adjust the loft and such. The Qi10 can't and I would have to pay a few hundred to upgrade to a decent stiff shaft. So which makes the Qi35 that much better out of the gate.
