But my guess is that for the iX3 they won't do it because it adds cost, and the iX3 is not supposed to be a $100K+ luxury car.

I'm trying hard to temper expectations, because I love all the technology I'm reading about in the Neue Klasse iX3, but I have remind myself that's not going to be in the same class luxury-wise as a 5 series, 7 series, or an iX.
I watched one of the bmw blog videos about the iX3 charging and they stated that the iX3 charging on a 400V charger would be similar to what the iX has today (i.e. +/- 200kW peak).

That video showed the bottom end of the charging curve of the iX3 and the chunky part of the charge curve is really nice and is at around 400kW for a while. If you have a bunch of really fast chargers along your route, you can hop chargers at the bottom end of the SoC curve and road trip long distances very fast; dare I say better than just about every other EV out there.

Although I would generally agree, we all have a point where the speed difference will make us still prefer to try the less reliable and available chargers first.

In the case of the iX3, if you can find a super fast charger and you are at low SoC, you are looking at 400kW vs 200kW at the Tesla charger. If you are in a hurry, that makes a significant difference. More realistically with today's chargers, you would be looking at 350 vs 200 most of the time if you are at low SoC. All else being equal, I feel most people would go for the 350 even if it isn't as reliable. Of course if you are not in a hurry, or are stopping to eat or stretch your legs, then the speeds become insignificant the second they are above what you need to fully recharge in 1hr or so.

I hope you're right in the sense that the iX5 will occupy the iX's price point, and the iX3 will come in a good bit lower.*

*Caveat: tariffs

The reviews suggest that the iX3 will be every bit a BMW, though it may have more plastic than we'd prefer.

There are folks claiming to charge at Superchargers. Yet BMW has made no announcement.

BMW has been silent since they sent us a warning letter back in the fall: don’t use non-BMW approved adapters.

BMW announced access is coming in 2025. That’s what I think.
