Yes. Tesla drive modes are sticky and start up in whatever mode you last had the car set to. This is also saved in your driver profile. BMW's decisions are just assinine and are obviously being made by a legal team or a committee, none of whom actually drive the car or care about what their customers want.

I have the same problem…but I don’t have any devices connected. I’m due for service in September…I’ll just wait. Not sure the update will do anything meaningful from what I have read.

You should update the car you have in your profile here

To be fair, it isn't shitty software when it does exactly what the BMW engineers designed it to do. Just like with the geofencing of the auto unlock, they could clearly also do it for auto locking but purposely decided not to (likely cause to them you should lock your car even at home in your garage). Those that disagree with them can consider it a bad decision, but not bad software in my opinion.

This is where I appreciate Tesla's approach of giving customers the option to use or not use at their discretion. At the time the Model S launched, it was quite a radical notion to be able to interact with one's touch screen while driving. Toyota disabled all of that due to legal considerations. Tesla says to hell with lawyers (unless it's Elon suing you because you called him a name), let the owners decide. I truly appreciate that ethic.

The Germans want to dictate to everyone how they should be driving and storing their cars. Typical German mentality of "you get what we decide, not what you actually want."

Correct. Bad software is that which doesn’t work (see polestar) and which sometimes breaks when updates are applied.

Idrive software works. It does everything it did when I bought the car, so I cannot complain that new features aren’t added (especially if they weren’t promised).

Also: this topic (supposed shitty software, what updates should/shouldn’t be, and ad nausea(m) comparison to teSSla) is discussed endlessly on the last update thread:
https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s....php?t=2163867
Can y’all please keep this one focused on just 03/2025 and go there to do all that?

Thanks!🙏

Choices are generally good and I do think BMW can be more flexible (like with the auto unlock), BUT Tesla ushered in the unsafe to use while driving touchscreen UIs and people decided that was OK because they look pretty, and reminded everyone of the interface on an iPad. This is one area that BMW handles better but will never be praised for. Prioritizing safety means making bigger easier to hit buttons in your touchscreen UI which are objectively less pretty. It means not allowing you to use a full touchscreen keyboard while driving, which requires too much time looking away from the road. It means not using high definition satellite imagery on your maps which make the map harder to read quickly but pretty to look at. Companies need to find a better balance between things we use often while driving, which should be hardware controls that can be used easily without too much distraction, and what we almost never use while driving, which they can make the UI as intricate/pretty as they want. Ideally you should be locked out of a over complicated menu until the car is stopped. If you give people too many choices, they will ignore safety. This is why so many people use their phones while driving. When I use public transit to commute downtown to my office, essentially I see that 1/3 drivers are either distracted by their phones in their hands or on a mount, or are staring at it in their lap while driving. They all think they are not overdoing it, but they all drive like garbage as a result.

This update transferred from my iPhone to the iX a lot faster than previous updates. It was ready after a short 8 min drive.

Did the update when I got home. IX started up post update with no noticeable issues. No geofencing on my 8.0. Annoyed.

The last time i tried transferring an update from my phone to the car, it took forever and refused to work if the car wasn't actually moving. This time it worked while the car was stationary in my driveway and transferred super quick. Much better.

Today on my iPhone I got two notices; the BMW app had been updated, and the 11/2024 update had been rescinded. I was one of many (on iDrive 8.5) who had the low 12V battery warning and couldn't complete the update.

I'm curious what comes next, a renewed 11/2024 or 03/2025 when it's ready for OTA.

It all depends on what the car is rated at and what was filed with the EPA. It’s not as simple as you think it is. That’s why there are some ICE cars you can permanently disable auto start stop and others you cant. Same thing.

That aside I installed my update today with no issues.

Same here. This time it worked without moving for me too. I wish BMW would clarify the “driving required” message in the app for the update. Is it or isn’t it?

Whew!! I took a leap of faith, and let it install while I was at work this morning. Thank God not bricked, and especially happy that I did not get the dreaded insufficient battery warning I got with the last OTA, that resulted in my iX at the dealership for three days.
And zero changes or improvements with 03/2025, at least for me. Oh how I wish BMW would give us a good OTA.

Speaking of software that doesn’t work… the exclude home geofencing doesn’t work for me so far. Home address is correct in iDrive, option checked, but the navigation map shows my “home” is 400 feet away. So, it still unlocks whenever I walk by. I’ll take a drive later and see if it somehow corrects itself.

100% exact thing in iX and i7! i7 had "exclude home" from day one of delivery and never worked from day one. Same thing now with my iX. Behaves and does exactly what you have

Well if it doesn't let you define the actual spot your car is parked as being "home" then it would indeed qualify as shitty software.

I can’t find an option to do this. As far as I can see, you type in an address to call “home.” However, for some reason the navigation map in iDrive says “home” is 400 feet away even though the myBMW app shows the car parked at the address marked as home.

YUP! i7 and now iX....what BMW thinks my "home" address is across the street; hundreds of feet away!

My 2021 Model Y....exclude home worked 100% perfect immediately and the Tesla hooked to my home WiFi immediately and never lost connection once!

Lots of BMW software is ABSOLUT SCHEIẞE!!

You people are killing me. I never ever had and OTA update for my car in the 2.5y of ownership. Yes, I have all the right privacy settings and all other stuff. And I was told the regular “you will get it when your time comes” at the dealer.
I am now tired of even asking about that. Thinking of calling one of those geniuses but they will probably tell me all the usual bs that I have heard so many times already.
