Comp Pack 666M Wheels - Powder Coated!

So, I finally pulled the trigger and powder coated my comp package wheels. After much deliberation I decided to not go with black (matte, satin or gloss). I was concerned about the depth of the tire washing out too much. I wanted darker, but still wanted some pop.

Color is Crystal Gray. It's similar to the color of the new CS wheels, with some metal flake in them. Thus far I'm really happy, but have yet to see them in a bright sunny day. (btw - tires are the new pilot sport 4S, which I'm equally excited about)

Definitively a nice color. Almost like the shadow finish on the BMW 666m wheels without the black finish inside. Too many black wheels out there. Looks really clean.

I have the shadow 666s on my M4, if I had the non shadow then like you I would have done something like this. They look great against your paint too! Kudos.

Interesting, it looks very subtle. I'm sure the color is more apparent in real life? In some of those shots it still looks like the stock silver to me.

Thanks. I don't mind black, just from what I'd seen in pictures and even in person, for these specific wheels in black they seem to lose the intricacies of the wheel. Purpose of the post/thread was to show another color option.

If I had shadow 666s I would have been a happy man and never would have done this! The mineral white paint has metal flake, so it does work well together.

The wheels will "shine" in the right light and not look so dark, that was an objective when I picked this color. I'll post up some more photos of before and after, and close up's of the new color at different angles. The wheel will look two different colors depending on flash and angle of the camera at photo.

Before:

Close up of wheels post powder coating, photos taken at different angles:

Close up, seeing metal flake and gloss:

And yes, this is the same wheel as the two above! Angle of the light and with flash, they almost look like the shadow 666m:

Side Note, still struggling on how to imbed video... can't find a sticky on it.

Thanks for posting these pics. (My car is Mineral White) so this gives me a good reference what to expect when I do mine. I'm leaning towards going with Satin Orbit grey as BMW has on the M4 DTM Champion Edition

That's a good choice and will look great on mineral white. It's a difficult wheel to change colors on due to the complexity of the wheel design.

It took me a year of looking around at different examples, specifically 666M's and on white before I decided.

Damn...I was thinking that for mine, just wasn't sure how it would look on MGM. I'm thinking a glossy black will still look the best. Such a hard decision...

Any dark finish on this wheel look good.

BTW - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires have been amazing, though I wonder how much of that is because my old PS2's were shot. Either way, even with 500+ hp, I'm having no issues putting down the power AND it's cold here in CO.

Those wheels look great. With the car up from winter I've been kicking around the idea of doing either gloss crystal or satin on my Grigio M3. Closest thing I found to that Orbit Grey is this Prismatic Color:

Love this color! I have the same wheels on my m3 and can't decide what to do. Are there two different stock colors? Mine seems a bit darker but are all of the comp wheels silver ? It's hard to tell.. I am thinking about going gloss black on mine but these look amazing!

There are two comp colors. You may have the smoked/black version of the wheels. On that version the insides of the wheel are black and the face is smoked (not black, but darker than silver). I originally had just straight silver, thus wanting to go darker went with the Crystal Gray. For me, I'd seen a few examples of black and felt the depth and intricacies of the wheel were lost when you go straight black.
