Tire mounting & rotation - question

Tire Gurus - I have Blizzak LM-32 255/40 mounted on 513M wheels. The front wheel size is different than the rear wheel size. While my car was getting serviced, I asked the dealership to swap the front & rear tires and they said they couldn't do it.

I am waiting for a call back for the reason, but could anyone think why this technically isn't possible? Does something happen to the tires being a little more stretched in the rear that they can't be mounted on the front wheels any longer? Not sure but if anyone has any insight that would be very helpful.

Thanks!

The offsets may not work. Why do you want them rotated anyway?

It's not the wheels - just the tires. The rear tread is wearing faster than the fronts so I want to move the fronts to the rears to get an extra season out of the tires. The dealership said they won't take the tires off and do this so I'm trying to figure out if there is an actual reason or not.

I traded my front 513's for a guys rear 513's. He had 255/40/18 tires stretched on the 10" wide rears. So I have seen it done.

Just spoke with them again - turns out it was a misunderstanding. This is doable so original post can be deleted/ignored.

If I were the dealership, I wouldn't do it for the following reasons:

1. 255/40/18 isn't ideal on the rear 18x10 513M wheel.

2. Liability for any accidents caused by the worn tire depending on the severity of the condition.

3. Little to no profit considering potential liability on scratching your wheels in the process, so no favors/hand outs, especially if you didn't buy the tires through the dealership.

------

Question: Why pay a dealership to do basic tire work?

Just about any reputable mom and pop tire shop will be able to do what you're looking to get done for a fraction of the cost.

Ok I misunderstood (and it sounds like the dealer did too).
